@divegeester saidYes Iran must be doing a jig as well, that Israeli / Saudi / US alliance was designed as a counterbalance to Iran and its proxies in the region but apparently there is no evidence of Iranian involvement in the Hamas attack or its timing. Well apart from motive and opportunity obviously
The timing of the Hamas attack was interesting; just when the US was moving to position themselves as brokers of the relative period of calm. Biden getting told to go away by Jordan yesterday is also interesting.
I don’t think a land break will achieve Israel’s goal. There might/will be some frantic financial negotiations by the US with Egypt to open its border once it ...[text shortened]... ises the inevitable. Otherwise what are we looking at, concentration camps in Israeli occupied Gaza.
@no1marauder saidDoubling down eh, the cowards way, can't fess up that you got a little carried away with glee at putting the knife into Israel. You'd rather draggggg it out.
You can keep lying if you want, but the Guardian article said "airstrike" and that means Israel.

It does not mean Israeli airstrike, it appears they, like the BBC showed restraint and integrity (of which you have none) in not making p stuff they're unsure of. Do you know what they'd be saying if they could prove it was the IDF, it'd be a headline. Of course Hamas has a number of ways of delivering ordnance from the air, missiles fired from the ground will go into the air, (you're impressed eh). They also drop bombs from UAVs, there's vid of them taking out an Israeli tank out with this method and civilians running for their lives at the sound of these devices.
@metal-brain said'Do you think Israel will allow any of them to return once they have complete control over north Gaza?"
Was it Israel that bombed one of the escape routes or was it Egypt?
Why would Israel care if the Palestinians leave Gaza and go to Egypt? Isn't getting them to leave been Israel's goal all along? Cutting off 90% of potable water and cutting off electricity most of the time was meant to make their lives difficult so they would leave, right? That was going on for years. I ...[text shortened]... o you think Israel will allow any of them to return once they have complete control over north Gaza?
I know I wouldnt, would you?

Biden is merely pretending he wants Israel to restrain itself. It is all an act like a good cop bad cop routine.

@metal-brain saidI’m pretty sure all violence against against all civilians is illegal and considered a war crime but it’s a bit hard to get a SC resolution when a founder member has been committing that crime for the last 18months or so Ivan

Russia does not target civilians, but all wars result in civilian deaths. Any nation that has ever been in a war has committed that crime by your standards.

@kevcvs57 saidThere is no evidence Russia targeted civilians. There is a big difference between targeting and condoning. Targeting means you intended to kill civilians. A missile that hits an unintended building is not a target. Knowing your missiles are going to miss their target and inadvertently will kill civilians is condoning, not targeting.
Then they are all war criminals yet like the Putin regime who definitely without a shadow of a doubt do target civilians with bombs, missiles, execution, rape and torture
Targeting is an intentional kill.

Russia went through a lot of trouble to minimize civilian deaths in Ukraine. The reason is simple and logical. Most of the places they annexed from Ukraine had a lot of ethnic Russians living there. Why would they kill their supporters? That would be stupid.

From the BBC:
UN chief says 7 October attack did not happen in a vaccuum
At a meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York, secretary general Antonio Guterres said that "the 7 October attack by Hamas on Israel "did not happen in a vacuum”.
Guterres added “The Palestinian people been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They have seen their lands steadily devolved by settlements and plagued by violence. Their economy stifled. Their people displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing."
But he also said: "the grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by Hamas and those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people”.
Sounds reasonable enough. Balanced, true and humanitarian.
