I'm pretty sure a chicken is more expensive here. 🤔
We are 9th worldwide for expensive chicken.
I'm sure it it the same for all foods.

https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_price_rankings?itemId=19
Yeah but put it as a % of avg income.
Here for eg A 5 lb chicken is $50, and the income of a govt worker [around min salary) is $4000 Thats 1.25% of income.

Whats yours.

The list I provided says 1 kg where you are is $6.67 per kilogram.

So that's about $15 for 5 pounds not $50 right?

Also...our rent here is $2000 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment.
So ya we earn more but we pay more.

I used $TT not $US.
Right $15 US for 5 lbs of Chicken breast.
Thats about $100 TT

Low income rent here is about TT$1500 per month

Nobody in the USA knows what hunger is. The groceries and restaurants routinely throw away perfectly good food. The farmers every year, dump excess produce to maintain prices. Surplus animals are dumped in a big hole and executed. The garbage bins of every middle class family, are full of wasted food that nobody wants. Wild hogs [perfectly good food] are shot and left to rot. ...[text shortened]... ntries. Americans, Canadians and Europeans, dont have a clue what the rest of the world is like.
Yes, note that my post above said there’s no starvation. In liberal-eze, the crafty Marauder changes the word to ‘hunger’.
In a Purely technical and grammatical sense, it is impossible to respond to his post.

Why do that, and caused the entire thread to be thrown off course??

The one thing I have never learned is this...
Everyone knows the complete and utter failure Communism has been world wide. A totally miserable
system of government that leaves the unwashed masses hungry, poorly housed, and with few goods.

Yet the liberals in America march proudly on.

Go figure...? I swear I can't. Maybe its determinism.

You can kind of excuse an 18 year old for buying into it, although really you kind of hope 18 year-olds would know by intuition that communism can't work. (If you know anything about human nature, it's obvious that communism can't work).

But there are powerful people and educated people who really ought to know better that keep moving us in that direction. Totally baffling. Not only will this lead to poverty, it also eventually leads to mass murder.

I've once heard some claim that they'd rather have access to an ordinary grocery store in the year 2000 than a king's palace in the year 1900. That's all thanks to capitalism. Why oh why do we want to destroy ourselves?

Sure, life is tough for some in America. Those who are addicted to hard drugs, those who commit major crimes, and those who get pregnant before getting married. But if you're basically healthy and avoid these three pitfalls, there is virtually no time or place in history where it is easier to survive and thrive than today's capitalist countries.

Maybe Marauder can weigh in on this? Please no links, we dont want homework, just a common sense answer or explanation to this time-worn query.

To me, techsouth, it's like watching the moth flitter around the flame. It's just a question of when, not if.

The real solution to the taxation/wealth problem is the APT approach. Many transactions that only the wealthy make that are untaxed today would get taxed at the same small rate everyone would get taxed.

With a small stimulus type check issued to all Americans, any tax liability that the poor would incur would be more than covered.

But nobody wants that tax because it is politically incorrect from both sides.

Socialism and Communism are almost as different from each other as Socialism and Capitalism.

Many a cash transaction takes placed that is untaxed as well. Millions of people per day finish mowing a yard and receive cash they don't have to report. A lot of small businesses will give you a cash discount for this very reason. It's not just the wealthy that take advantage of anything possible, it's human nature.

A lot of people who live in government provided housing will refuse work entirely because if they earn any money they are likely to lose benefits. Many are purposely producing more kids just so they get more welfare money. May not be politically correct to say, but it is happening on a VERY large scale.

America should focus on providing equal opportunity, NOT equality. Lastly, and not having anything to do with your statement, Eladar, I see a lot of talk about communism on this forum.

Communism is advertised as a way to make everyone equal economically speaking. There is MUCH truth to that advertisement. Communism results in everyone being equally impoverished.

I'm reminded of a song by Ten Years After:
"I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do.
So I leave it up to you.

Tax the rich, feed the poor, till there are no rich no more..."

Yeah, but to get the cash there would be a heavier tax with the assumption a person will be doing evading the other tax.

Think of all the bank transactions that are being made simply by computer that would never escape the tax. Every transaction gets taxed. No escaping the tax simply because a person sold the stock for a loss. No escaping the tax for people who gamble, both money going in and money coming out.

As for people who do not work so that they can claim benefits, that will happen no matter the tax structure.
