@kewpie saidThat is a good point, a learning experience, but I Gotta say that I am more intrigued by the beliefs and thoughts of people that are not like me, liberals, have about all of the areas. How they can think that way, I think. The easiest, recent example I can give is just picking out college graduates in paying off their tuition loans. I find that, so unbelievable, and I have never either from this forum, , or in the news, found justification.
This table and its included map says it all. We're not talking about trade, or foreign investment, or business money in any form. Here. We're talking about mostly first-world governments giving a hand up, or a hand out, to third-world countries. The rich countries do it for the same motivations as rich people do it. And also for political reasons.
Most of the posts in ...[text shortened]... rn something of the considered views of a broad spectrum of people who they normally would not meet.
Just an example.
Merry Christmas everybody!!
@averagejoe1 saidWe here call this kind of thing middle-class welfare. It's not welfare as such, it's a bribe to keep the heaviest contributors to the tax take quiet. The poor can't collect it, the rich don't have student debts, so it's quite efficiently targeted.

If you don't drop a bribe to the middles now and then, you don't win elections. Everybody needs to have a win now and them to keep them happy and co-operative and under control.
I have an academic interest in the topic, but I'm not well-educated. How much reading have you done on the interaction between economics and politics? Can you recommend any books?

@kewpie said"Economics in One Lesson" Henry Hazlitt. Explains the broken window fallacy in the first chapter, then gives examples of how goobermints employ the fallacy in following chapters, plus much more.

@wajoma saidThank you for that info. Ideally I should read at least 3 authors who disagree with each other, no?

@kewpie saidI don't pretend to be knowledgeable on the reasons, the inner workings, we can only surmise what goes on behind closed doors. I mean, what are they saying about allowing Mexico to join with us, to come here. They are bringing 'there' here. And really, forgiving the loans?! If they are looking for votes, wouldn't they give money to the poor?

As to books, if one were written today, it would be outdated in 6 months, things are moving pretty fast. What if one were written to stop flow of fentanyl, when our president turns his back on the problem? Thus, a wasted book. Any books now that are over 2 years old have little effect. My 2 cents
@averagejoe1 saidAny books over 2 years old ??

Wouldn't that make the Bible obsolete and out of date ? Which it does, btw.
@mghrn55 saidEvonomics, politics, etc changes about three times a day the Bible has never changed.

@averagejoe1 saidSure it has. You don't think the ancient Jews and Greeks wrote in English under the orders of King James do you?

NOOne has answered .....what countries give money to the USA. I think it was Kev who said a few clicks back that we buy stuff from UK on occasion, they buy a LOT from us, but that is not the question.
C'mon Thousand end the year with a bang.
@averagejoe1 saidI answered you. Nobody. You aren't starving. OP is opening post or opening poster depending on context.

@booger saidDeeper point is that dems believe not in ‘walling people out’ , but yet , support countries who do and F’n pay for it.
Did anyone see the money they are sending to the middle east for a border wall but said no to an American border wall?
Classic democrats. Help everyone but the Americans.
And deeper than that, the libs here do not see the irony.
Pitiful.
