@averagejoe1 saidWhat fraud might you be talking about ??
Gracious, Sonhouse.
Anyway, I guess we don't see eye to eye (Oh let me insert the word trump to keep you interested here...) on freedom of states to create the best voting process. I would think that a system that keeps folks from committing fraud would be the best.
I guess you don't see it that way. Rather,, you prioritize the feeding of water to the masses in lin ...[text shortened]... and free healthcare? Sonhouse? When does it all begin....with the oh-so-generous water in line??

@wildgrass saidYou are so wrong. Call the govt 'aid' to corps what you will, but they are a bit important. I myself Hated their bailing out Chrysler before your time, but it worked out. Go Chrysler.
Government-dependent corporations are far more dangerous to capitalism than government-dependent citizens.
Do you have any idea how the tax breaks to corps help blue-collar middle America?? They were the BIGGEST beneficiary of the tax cuts. It is in stone. They bear 70% of the corp tax. When Trump slashed it from 35% to 21%, a blue-collar boom ensued, wages went up, inequality and poverty went down. Unemployment was the lowest in 50 years, including women, African Americans, hispanics, Asians.
#1,This new reconciliation bill wants MORE cradle to grave spending, without work requirements (Jesus), and #2, they want to jack up the tax rates on corps, foreign income , domestic income, capital gains, of course, etc, Who Do You Think is Going To Get Hurt?, when Biden reverses Trump policies? It is the middle class.
This is common sense. As go the corporations, so will go the middle class. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Libs just follow each other with unbased comments, such as Sonhouse.
If I have a corp factory with 200 employees, and the govt asks me for more money, should I raise my prices on goods, or just not raise wages? A big decision. As the corp struggles, they will prob outlast the people who are let go each day till it closes down.
Libs have a blind eye to all this. Maybe the Liberal Arts majors in college did not acquaint students with such matters. Boy, was I ever acquainted, indeed. Great professors!

@mghrn55 saidAny fraud, McHill. The word and the concept of fraud was tossed around for months. There could be many types of fraud, who cares? Why are you playing this silly narrative?
What fraud might you be talking about ??
Any fraud. Hell, the new law could be just perfect, blocking all frauds, and yet some NEW kind of fraud slips through. Do a better question, maybe??? 🤔

@bunnyknight saidYou'd have to define 'unfair'. And was it illegal?
We have 100 households who have over a million times more wealth than 50 million other working households. The only way this could have happened is through redistribution of wealth ... or more precisely, unfair redistribution of wealth.
You can do this!
@averagejoe1 saidThe talk of fraud only started when it became apparent that Trump was going to lose the election.

Coincidence ??
Just to be clear, there are always opportunities to improve the voting process.
But let's include gerrymandering and re-districting in the conversation, shall we ??
And let's toss in voter suppression in general.
And you guys are looking for a perfect law ? Really ??
Looking for traces of bamboo ?? Really ??

@mghrn55 saidWell, am I wrong, given that you say we'd like a perfect law, to say that liberals want a perfect equal society, social justice, all that stuff, everybody who doesn't have as much as rich folks need to be brought up to the level of rich folks ANYWAY YOU CAN!!???

@averagejoe1 saidJoe you're scaring me. You describe socialism. The government pays and thereby controls the activities of certain businesses (who don't pay taxes) to employ 'the people' who have to pay taxes back to the government to line the pockets of the corp execs.

An essential component of capitalism is to let corps fail who can't float on their own. But they pay $100s of millions in govt lobbyists to prevent that from happening. Due to govt subsidies the risk of failure goes away and we become socialist. There's an economic term for this but I'm blanking on the name.

Yes. a conundrum, and I did say I hated the bailout of Chrysler. So, its not perfect, I dont know how I would have voted while 'In the room', but if it smacked of socialism, I would have told Chrysler to get their act together,,,,,,there are plenty of other car manufacturers. I'd vote for the successful. As soon as Chrysler lands on its feet, the legislators named Suzianne could figure a way to get their money!!!

@averagejoe1 saidThere is no rule like that. It is just unlikely that a dictatorship will promote freedom, not impossible. Stalin didn't tolerate freedom, but he wasn't a fascist. There is more to fascism than that if you find the true definition. Freedom or lack of it doesn't define fascism.
Correct. They cannot coexist.
Biden doesn't tolerate freedom of choice to not get the gene vaccines. Does that make him a fascist? A loyal democrat would say no, but they would also object to me calling him a republican. He is too far to the right. He even extended Trump's tax cuts. If Trump is a fascist then Biden is a fascist.

@averagejoe1 saidYou write that now but as a consistent defender of government controlled industry, you are about as close to a marxist as anyone on these forums.
