the people who live in the Bay area, perhaps?

Oh, by the way, that was a joke.

good point

Much like the way forest managers will set small forest fires to burn off the underbrush and thus preventing a major forest fire

Yes, I realize it was a joke. But who you choose to make jokes about can be telling. You weren't targeting, oh, I don't know...GAY PEOPLE were you? It's one thing to joke about Texan rednecks. They're a perfectly legitimate target for ridicule. But gays? Tsk, tsk, that sort of thing might get you banned.

The great thing about San Fran and the Bay area is that you can joke about the area and no one can know who, if anyone, you're targeting. Are you targeting the Chinese community of San Fran, the black community of Oakland, the Hispanics, the gay community or just the white Berkeley liberals?

The Bay area has a little of everything. 🙂

Well, that may or may not be true; but I'd like to see that effect (artificially causing minor earthquakes in one region now and then prevents a big one in the long run) from a scientific source before I put all that much stock in it.

only half true.

You are forgetting that an earthquake in one location releases the tension in that area, but it can also cause the tension in another area to INCREASE. Eventually, one bad ass mother of all earthquakes might result.

Not if the tension is released often along the whole fault line and in an intelligently calculated way -else, if not, wouldn’t that big earthquake have happened eventually anyway? We would be just putting forward the date which a big earthquake would have happened in the short run but in the longer run it wouldn’t cause an overall increase in magnitude nor frequency of the big earthquakes and can only cause an overall decrease in the frequency of the really big earthquakes.

Yes, but you seemed to imply the technology as a whole is flawed. I don't know if it's applicable in California.
