@averagejoe1 saidNo. Because the line between destitute and not quite destitute enough can shift in a single month.
A side note: I think that the 40M people in the USA who are truly destitute should be cared for by our government, including medical care. That should satisfy your concerns?
What else seems to be bothering you,, you who wants everything to be 'universal'. ? Sounds boring.
I could call my doctor today and have a new knee by Monday. Can you?
"Sounds boring."
You're a moron. Healthcare should be boring. I don't need excitement in my life when i am figuring out monthly insulin doses or the next session of chemo.
"I could call my doctor today and have a new knee by Monday. Can you?"
First of all, no you can't. You will have to call your insurance and see if it's covered. Then you will have to see what hospital is allowed to do the procedure. You will have to see what additional fees you have to fork over. Arrange transportation there. And then you will be scheduled for the procedure. Maybe on a Monday but maybe not next Monday.
Depending on how much money you have, you may jump a few spots. Exactly like any citizen of a country with universal healthcare can. Only a Dane, French, Spanish, or even a Romanian will pay several times less for any procedure.
It's hilarious hearing broke ass americans scream about waiting times in Canada (a subject you also have no clue about) as if they have enough money to jump lines in the US if they ever get sick.

@zahlanzi saidZ won't get this.

500 people find themselves on an island, all agree to contribute to a fund for roads, water, police. That is about it. Z says, let us have a fund for really sick infirmed people,, and a committee to review applicants every quarter. Everyone agrees, and goes about their work.
Z, at what point does one inhabitant all of a sudden have to start paying for someone else's healthcare?
Can't wait for the marauder-type answer to this one!
@averagejoe1 saidNot true. The U.S. has the highest rate of infant and maternal mortality rates. We have a lower life expectancy. https://www.commonwealthfund.org/blog/2022/americans-no-matter-state-they-live-die-younger-people-many-other-countries
Other countries, however, have less healthy people, and flood the doctors for care, so that means the cost of health care is spread among more people. Everybody knows that.

Oh. But wait,,,,,,there is this.
Is medical School in the Netherlands free?
In general, there are no tuition-free options. The best way to study in the Netherlands for free is to obtain a scholarship. There are various scholarship options for international students, with some excellent opportunities for non-EEA students.Jan 20, 2023
There are EU countries with free medical school, if you have the grades to get into the program.

@phranny saidYou and Shav need to huddle, all very confusing.

And why bother with links if you state a fact. Would you do a link that the sun will appear to rise tomorrow?

@averagejoe1 saidYeah... I've seen those pictures from Walmart.
Other countries, however, have less healthy people
We don't have such land-whales, not even in Aldi.

Also healthcare. Also education. Also whatever the fuk needs arise that the entire dumb group on this dumb island needs.
If an interdimensional cockroach that ate shoes invaded that island, all would have to work together to tackle that problem. Even if the cockroaches targeted only 60% of the population's shoes.
"That is about it."
Why?
You decided police is a worthy project to pool money for. Why not healthcare. You can't police yourself but you can heal yourself?
"Z says, let us have a fund for really sick infirmed people,, and a committee to review applicants every quarter."
A comittee that is chosen by the people, paid with tax money. As opposed to some dude that makes more money if he finds ways to deny people healthcare.
"Z, at what point does one inhabitant all of a sudden have to start paying for someone else's healthcare?"
That's like saying "I don't want to pay firefighters to put out someone else's house fire"
"Can't wait for the marauder-type answer to this one!"
What's a marauder-type answer? Something backed by facts and logic you aren't able to understand because there isn't a fox business goon telling you what you're supposed to think?

@zahlanzi saidZahlanzi.....don't stop now!! Why stop at healthcare? Why stop at eduction? And why don't you say 'food' while you are at it? After all, there would be no reason for the hard working SHav to open a restaurant to make money.....he just walks down the road to the food house! A happy man indeed. After lunch, he pops into the free clothing mart, before heading to his govt-provided shielter.

Why don't you just say, ' Averagejoe1, the island can simply set up Socialism, or Collectivism or, ...I know!!! Communism!"
You are not a very independent, self reliant, sort , are you. If you ask Suzy to marry you, she may think twice about it. 🤔

Food.
Nobody should starve these days.
"After all, there would be no reason for the hard working SHav to open a restaurant to make money"
Yes, soup kitchens for the poor directly compete with restaurants. Great argument
"After lunch, he pops into the free clothing mart, before heading to his govt-provided shielter."
Yes the existance of good will would mean nobody will buy clothes anymore. Dumbass
Yes, governments should provide shelter. Which they did. In Finland. Eradicated homelessness and actually saved money. Surprising what people can do when they act on facts and logic instead of idiotic propaganda meant to keep rich people rich and the poor poorer
" Why don't you just say, ' Averagejoe1, the island can simply set up Socialism"
Averagejoe1, the island can simply set up Socialism
"You are not a very independent, self reliant, sort , are you."
I am. I am fortunate. Others aren't. Socialist programs are for them. They are for me too, because i benefit from more people becoming middle class. They are for me if tomorrow i bonk my head and can no longer work or.
" If you ask Suzy to marry you, she may think twice about it. 🤔"
You seem to be obsessed with Suzianne? Are you feeling threatened by her? Wouldn't be surprised. She is smart and you are definitely not
@averagejoe1 saidah yes, links. That disgusting habit of Marauder of actually providing facts supporting what he is saying rather than talking out of his ass.
A not-answer, actually. Verbose and off subject....laced with answers (links) of others.
I do that too sometimes. When i am debating someone i actually respect. Someone who hasn't proven time and again he finds educating themselves boring. Someone who actually understands my point and forms a coherent counter argument.
Not you.
Never you
@zahlanzi saidNo, I occasionally do a link which is on point. Marauder writes like a link-supported encyclopedia, coming close to handing out assignments for us to complete like College 101. You cannot tell me that you click on those things. Gotta wonder why a guy cannot express his opinion straight off the top of his head.

Hell I wish he would just write like one would, having a cup of coffee on the porch. Not Maruader.
And you make my point. We want someone who gets the point and forms a coherent argument. Next he will tell us a book to read!
@zahlanzi saidWow. I guess Zhalanzi answered with his philosophy of socialism. Seems I was so smart to recognize where he was going with his post just above about living on the island.
"And why don't you say 'food' while you are at it?"

Y'all have at it. Brrrrrrrrrrr.
I love the part about how he will expect someone (besides his own established savings) to take care of him. Brrrrrrr again
Has he ever told us why more countries do not adopt socialism....does he ever compare, say Venezuala, to USA? Your post sounds like a dependent wrote it, Z, I just hate it, as my granny used to say.
@wajoma saidFurther yet, he is all comfy knowing the govt will 'be there for him'. Brrrrrr. for the third time. What if Russia will be at the country's border and the govt pulls all elder-care money to use it to fight the tanks? Certainly Zhlanzi has made it clear that they will NOT ask the USA for help, mainly because all of our posters are trying to do away with the USA military. What mind-numbing confusion.
...and yet everyday people do starve and zahlooney bamboozle does nothing, even though he could.
