You would find out that I am pro military and support the US troops efforts all over the world. I'm just stating facts that when I was in the Army there wasn't too many women I know that could carry rucksack that sometimes weighed as much as 150 pounds. I know there are some women body builders that probably could but, they are in the minority. The problem with women on the front lines is the fact that men will try to protect the women and in some cases cause a detriment to morale if say the leader keeps her from walking point on a patrol. Look at the problems that have risen from females in close quarters with male soldiers with the pregancies that have occurred. Some units lose up to 10% or more in stength due to this. We are talking young, healthy, virile adults here. I wouldn't have minded having a sleeping bag "honey" 30 years ago with me.
I'm a small woman and could not possibly undertake the physical demands of frontline action, BUT, there are woman out there who can easily outmatch any man in physical strength. Ever check out some of those women body builders? I think Women who have the skill and ability should have equal opportunities to persue a military career if they so chose to do so. O ...[text shortened]... I'm still a good shot....with a .22 ....lol. Anything bigger I'm afraid of losing my shoulder!
First of all for any women to even be considered for front line duty they must meet all the qualifications that the men have to meet. That way it is assured they are physicaly equal but you also have to take in to consideration things like using the restroom and changing clothes and such and how that will affect the unit. Israels answer to this was to make certain units all female. This had some negatives to it as well as in certain battles with muslim countries the men in those armies fought twice as hard when they knew they were fighting women, so women can have a impact on how hard your enemies fight too.
But as long as there are women that want to join the military and they can physically do it and the problems of restrooms etc. can be sufficiently worked out i see no reason not to let women go get themselves killed if they want too.

Wouldn't they have to pass physical training? If they are not capable of this then they should not be running along side others that can.

I'm not front line aware but it would seem to me that everyone would be trying to protect everyone would they not? what would be the difference of a soldier trying to "protect" a fellow male soldier in battle or a female one?

Two words: Birth Control
I'm not going to say that all women should be enlisted and could perform to the same ability as all men, but there are women who could perform as equals and be just as much an asset as their male counterparts.
Current views on women in the military won't go away until challenged and proven to be unsubstantiated.

Mabey if more of the worlds militaries spent more time in their "sleeping bags" There would be less wars
