@vivify saidThat last comment certainly rings true, yes.
The link I posted was about right-wingers continually gaining political power across Europe, not necessarily a numerical increase. Some recent examples include Georgia Meloni or The Finns gaining more seats in Finland than the Social Democrats.
Here's one headline from two months ago:
https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20230405-le-pen-would-beat-macron-if-french-pr ...[text shortened]... t societies wealthy people tend to be the ones with power and influence and fight for right-wingers.
Union membership is low with young people as well.
It’s not really moving in a desired direction, to be perfectly honest.
@shavixmir saidMy favorite union story. In Melbourne Australia the unions are very strong, we worked on a project and one of the criteria that shaped the job, reduce manpower on site, they're all trouble they will hold the job to ransom (again).

Anyway, when the writing was on the wall that assembling cars in Australia was about to end, the union was negotiating conditions down, not to preserve jobs and not to improve conditions (they were actively doing the opposite) it was because the union could see all their lovely union dues evaporating, they were doing the bidding of the employers.
The market determines pay and conditions, unions like to claim credit but it's a lie.
This is actually news from last week, but I only heard about it this morning.
The British minister for refugees has ordered paintings of cartoon characters to be removed from entrance centres and refugee camps for children.
They want to make the campa less welcoming for 9 to 12 year olds arriving without parents.
I have an opnion about this…

Sunak seems to have effectively banned asylum seekers from entering the UK. He claims it's to protect them from taking dangerous risks like crossing the channel on small boats.
The article says this could have a ripple effect across Europe.
The law was upheld by a court then overturned on appeal. That appeal may face a legal challenge in the Supreme Court.
@vivify saidBritain with it’s Rwandan solution… morally so bankrupt, the mind boggles.

When the UK was thinking of a solution for the Jews, after WW2, one of the options they came up with was sending the survivors to Rwanda.
Luckily they decided on Palestine instead. Imagine the friction that would have been created othewise…
@shavixmir saidDidn't know that.

Yeah, that could've caused another Partition-of-India kind of situation.
Major heatwaves all over the planet.

What the hell am I doing in the Netherlands??? I should be down south soaking up the sun!
However, I do think a lot of people are suffering because of it. And that it’s a trend which keeps getting worse.

Twitter Deletes Its Own Fact Check Correcting Elon's Bogus Vaccine Tweet
Twitter deleted its own label correcting unfounded, misleading speculation posted by Elon Musk, marking yet another example of the fact the free speech warrior does not, in fact, seem to care much about free speech at all.
@vivify saidThis is an extension of the France-Russia rivalry.

I'm surprised nobody has brought THIS dude up, the first step to an authoritarian regime by taking over the courts.
