Because it was an attack against a religion and a desecration of the house of worship for that religion. It wasn't an attack against a bunch of people who just happened to be Jewish; it was an attack against them
because they were Jewish. If the Pianoman1 family was attacked by a Trumpetman1 mob that exponentially outnumbered them and didn't have a chance of winning, but did survive after all, at least someone in the Pianoman1 group would consider it a triumph over the Trumpetmen.
