So name another sci-fi movie please. Both Blade Runner and many of the Star Wars movies show up on lists of Sci-fi movies.

Also, after looking up the word skiffy I realize you have no idea what you are talking about and make up your own definitions to fit your view of what is a good movie and what is not.

I already asked you to name another sci-fi movie and you didn't bother.

sci-fi = scifi = skiffy

At least that's what I got out of it.

How about Forbidden Planet, or The Day the Earth Stood Still. Primitive special effects, but still fun.

I'll need to review Forbidden Planet, have not seen it since I was a young kid. I've requested it at the library.

The Day The Earth Stood Still is great, hope there wasn't too much excitement for SBlue. I can't believe the remake was such a turd, It's supposed to be on TV soon, I may need to watch it just to see what makes it stink so much.

I didn't like 2001 either. In 1969 I was only 17, most everyone my age thought it sucked too.
College age kids were its biggest fans at the time, prolly because it was cool to see films like that on acid in the 60's.

The film is a bit overblown and hippy imo, but the book is brilliant. It works pretty well if you read the book first though, even allowing for it's sixtiesism.

I have both these films on DVD and both are great even now. Forbidden plant is especially enjoyable next time round. The Tempest in space...

Don't let the wife interrupt, women just do not get ScFi.

Folks have been getting it or not getting it since it came out. With great art there is no right or wrong in taste; if you hate the movie you are right, and if you think it's great you are right.

Great films force you to pick a side and be moved, not be merely entertained for 90 mins and move on. On the one side, love it with a passion. On the other, detest it with hateful malice. That's the nature of art.

Finally, it helped to have been born early enough, and be old enough, to remember what the world was like in 1968. To me, 1968 seems like a different planet and sometimes I don't really recognize where I'm at because so much has changed.

Also - this is one of those movies that needs to be seen on the big screen, the first time you ever saw it. Not doing so robs an essential experience of viewing this film.

I beg to differ.

Unintelligent women do not get sci-fi.

Intelligent women get sci-fi just fine, thank you.
