Soft punk? That's one of those stupid oxymorons like 'vegetarian sausage. If you think Punk can be made soft they you don't understand the ideals that drive Punk at all!
good charlotte ain't punk. heck, are they even a proper band?
a review:
"simple plan and good charlotte, "Hard Rock Live", orlando. 31/05/05
Something that has been integral to rock 'n' roll since Elvis first put the wind up parents across america with his dancing is danger. you'd be hard pushed to find much of that here tonight, though, a double-header of simple plan and good charlotte sponsored by nokia and filmed for mtv in a non-smoking hard rock cafe where the house lights stay on throughout the performance...etc etc etc"
also, i've heard decent things about one of the ex-busted people's new band,"fightstar". and that's not just from my sister! just though i'd slip that in...

Hope I have taught you that Good Charlotte are unlike the other punkees and rockers.
you may as well listen to Bing Crosby, for all GC have to do with punk or rock in general.
do yourself a favour: buy and listen to the following albums:
Nirvana - Nevermind
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Iggy and the Stooges - Raw Power (Iggy remix)
The Velvet Underground - White Light White Heat
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground and Nico
in that order.
then you will understand.

I feel you should have put In Utero instead of Nevermind (which was a tad commercial), but ...err...nevermind...
also i don't think anyone expected Nevermind to sell anything like the number of copies it did. i think it sounds commercial in retrospect because it transformed much of the musical landscape into its own image. teen spirit still makes me want to break something whenever i hear it (in a good way)

Blink 182?!? puhhlleeezzze, they're just an older version of the cess pool GC were spawned from, but apparently cos they're older and attempting to be more mature they must be okay. Throw em back in the swamp is what I say.
Originally posted by geniusyeah Sabbath are pure metal not punk - i put that in because of the 'satanic' bits in his post.

and it's only an intro: no room for plenty of great bands. those can come later...
AND: Blink 182 - get out of here! those pseudo-punks were the GC of their era...

"This band wouldn't be a favourite amongst the dreaded emo kids would it?" i think emo's are more into funeral for a friend, MCR etc
how many emo's does it take to screw in a light bulb? 31. 29 to cry about it, 1 to write a poem about it, and one to screw the darn thing in!
These are some of my favourite punk albums, which I recommend to any youngster.
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
The Ramones - The Ramones
NoMeansNo - Live And Cuddly
X-Ray Spex - Germ Free Adolescents
New York Dolls - New York Dolls
Black Flag - Damaged
The Slits - Cut
Please note the absence of Nirvana's Nevermind.
On the first paragraph last few words..............Hey!.
"that they are not the only ones that are left out and pooped on.
Listen to my words.......
Other kids out their feel left out and neglected, Good Charlotte band members were too when they were young. They are trying to tell other listeners that they are not the only ones.
Plus, I think Maroon 5 ARE better with songs but Good Charlotte are just their to help other youngings. I classified them as soft-punk because 'punk' as we say today means:Rock music with deliberately offensive lyrics expressing anger and social alienation
(taken from wordweb)
AND
This band was made in 1999 and produced and album "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"
If they were going against their song, they would be hypocritical......and if they were, why not name them Good Hypocrites
but they are not so thats why Good Charlotte sticks and stays.
Jim😠
PS.
Im getting the hang of writting long and creative posts😲😵😀

sure there have always been kids out there who feel alone. and there always will be. However, do you honestly think that half of them listen to that sorta music? some of them do, wallowing in a mire of low self esteem. others either try to help themselves, and it's a minority that listen to good charlotte et al. one of my friends who likes them is a very happy girl. very happy. she loves her life. she doesn't feel alone or anything! she just likes their music...but hey, there's no accounting for taste...
