he has got a good point though-there are few *real* band about nowadays that aren't ageing (maiden et al). but you have to make the choice yourself about what you think *real* music is. so here are some that i have found that aren't too old...although legend has it that slash (VR/G n' R) has died 3 times on different operating tables...

reel big fish
flogging molly
nine inch nails
thrice
velvet revolver
Guns n' Roses
Biffy Clyro
Dream Theater
The Proclaimers
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
etc

although maroon 5 are okay-not my sorta thing, but they are still okay. prefer franz ferdinand from that stable, though...

The truth is that I have never heard of any of the bands xcept for gunners and peppaz thats all........ive never seen ads on tv promoting their albums

most are quite big in their scene, and all quite good. NIN and SAOD have both had albums out recently, not sure how widely advertised they are though...
