Amway is relatively new in South Africa. My wife says Yes! I have my doubts. What are the benefits and drawbacks of this shopping network?

I guess a few, high up on the chains, have made good money. But that's the basic carrot to getting involved in netwirk shopping. One thing I couldn't stand was the rah-rah, happy-clapper, mass hysteria, motivational stuff. Turns my stomach. Leaves me cold.

Originally posted by Bosse de NageThe products are top quality, but very expensive. There's no huge downside, but you (or your wife) will initially be tempted to buy a lot of the products in order to kickstart the business. I doubt if more than 1 or 2 percent of Amway members receive more cash than they spend.

I pretty much echo all of the reactions here. The Amway business itself is pretty simple and straightforward but what really sucks about it are the "support systems" that supposedly "help" you build your business which translates into buying a buttload of positive reinforcement media (books, cds, cassettes, conferences, etc) to try to keep you having a positive attitude while most sane people turn you down constantly.
Unless you seriously have no other options available to you in your life, I highly do not recommend the Amway business or any other multilevel marketing business.
Edit - I have personally known people who have went what is called "Ruby" and "Diamond" who are now out of the business. These people had quit their jobs and traditional businesses to do Amway fulltime. They were successfully for a short amount of time but their downline started to fall apart and they could no longer hold on to their group.
Originally posted by Bosse de NageI've heard it's kind of a wierd "cultish" organization. If you're willing to get REALLY into it, it works well for a lot of people. I've always thought of it as kind of a pyramid scheme. I have to admit though, I don't know a lot about it. That's just been my general impression.
