Chicken lovers rejoice! This is my chicken update, per many, many requests.
After the chickens were old enough, they were moved outdoors a few months back. All four were really fun to watch grow. They got really ugly for a while, but now I think they are quite pretty 🙂.
Their names are Stella, Poe, Alice and Aurora.

There is a precedent. These people are idiots. They've had goats and horses come and go and their last dog killed by a car. There is only so much you can do when people are just stupid without driving yourself nuts everyday that they live next to you.
The dog is usually locked up inside. We've warned them about the dog and told them to keep it away from our kids and the yard. There's tons of dogs running around here. Basically, we chase the dog off if we see him but I actually haven't seen the dog in months.

The neighbors are being fined $100 and getting a warning on the dog being a nuisance.

The pen is not predator proof. I just didn't build it good enough to keep out a 120 lb Great Dane/Shepherd Mix. My new pen comes soon and its supposed to be TUFF! It cost enough. My dog would kill those chickens in a hearbeat...which is why I have a pen for her so she doesn't.
I don't think my neighbors cared about the chickens, really, they used to have goats that would eat all the leaves off my bushes, trees and flowers until I told them to knock it off. They're idiots. Religious, dysfunctional and there's like, literally 8 people living in that house. One of their kids plays with mine and is here 3 nights a week eating dinner here in my home.
I will be carrying a pitchfork next time I see the dog. Truly, we are all bummed out but I've learned my lesson. The new pen should be pretty good. I just put in a ton of work on the dumb chickens, their pen, their care, etc, and they have really grown on me. They all have different personalities...well, what's left of 'em. 😕
They are in my garage during the day until the new pen is up and in their coop at night where they are safe. They won't free range again, ever, unless I'm out there with the pitchfork.
Unless my ex buys me a gun which he was saying he would get. But I don't need it, don't want it.

you never told me you have a mini cult living next door... do they sacrifice animals to their god at night? 😛 that's f... strange.
don't think chickens could grow on me as a pet, would be good waste disposal units though.. last time i was down as my sister her cat stole my mars and the chickens stole it from the cat. will you be getting a rooster?

I won't bother asking for compensation on the chickens. They know I'm pissed. They will always be idiots. Their offspring will continue to take in the comforts of my home and stand outside in -4 F weather without a proper winter coat, hats, mittens or boots for the bus in the morning. They will continue to tell me that Jesus Christ gets them through the difficult times they bring on themselves. People like that cannot be rehabilitated. They're STUPIED.
I won't be getting any more chickens, especially a rooster who will just bring me more chicks...something I don't need.
