Poor wasp, they're far from a nuisance. Wasps are vital for the eco system, kill a lot of other bugs to keep their numbers under control and they also pollinate just like bees, so many different types of wasp you've probably seen one thinking it was a bee and not been bothered. Now, they do all die off (apart from the queen obviously) come the Autumn and can be a bit more pron ...[text shortened]... ed on my lip, must have liked the smell of the beer i was drinking, just let it be and it flew away.
Just don't step in a nest the wasp has in the ground!!!

They have just started harvesting the honey and will also be harvesting wax.
What do you mean by harvesting wax? What do bees use the wax for?

I find this fascinating as well.

Mostly for cell construction (Hexagonal cells). But it can be harvested for various uses such as polish or candles. A nice little industry.

May I recommend an interesting book on the subject - The History of Bees - by the Norwegian author Maja Lunde? We learn a lot about bees.

A little information on bees I found on the internet.

Web results

Why bees are important | Sustainwww.sustainweb.org › foodfacts › bees_are_important
Globally there are more honey bees than other types of bee and pollinating insects, so it is the world's most important pollinator of food crops. It is estimated that one third of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination mainly by bees, but also by other insects, birds and bats.

Very unusual book, very special. I didn't know anything about bees before reading it, and I just love the little creatures now. Read it you, who haven't. 🙂
