If the cop HADN'T had a taser or baton are you suggesting that he should have shot granny?
I'm thinking he probably could have handled her with no weapons and one hand tied behind his back. But maybe you're seeing something I'm not....
Originally posted by SunburntI am sure police have to go through some type of class to learn how to calm people down in certain circumstances. Maybe that would have been a better solution. She should have just signed the ticket anyway. When a cop clocks you at 15 over, you might as well pay the ticket and be done with it. Why was she arguing with him?
Tasers are misused. Debate all you want about this case but the fact is that cops abuse people with their Tasers all the time. In my experience, policing has some of most dysfunctional and crazy people in one group. It attracts those with mental problems and huge egos. Cops find ways to abuse, it doesn't have to be Tasers. The Taser is just one more thing ...[text shortened]... in in the ass and cussing. I've seen combative behavior. That doesn't come close.
I suppose in this case, the police officer did not expect the rowdy old lady to act the way she did, it probably thew him off. She did seem to be volatile and capable of running out into traffic. I'm not saying she deserved to be tasered, but then again, I wasn't in his shoes.
Originally posted by leisurelyslothI've got the answer to this problem. 50K volts is way overboard in this situation. Maybe 5K volts would have been appropriate for granny, or even less. Laser guns should be designed to deliver different voltages from the same gun for different circumstances. Just a little tickle may have been enough for granny.
