It would seem to me that banning someone for posting a link (to whatever) is an over the top reaction.
If he continually posted such links, then one could see some justification for banning (nobody likes spam), but a one-off link? A stern warning would have been sufficient.
I have to stand by it, everyone shouldn't get "ONE CHANCE" to post something like that.

DD was out of line big time, the ban was totally justified.

Who are you to determine what taste is?
If someone posts something that's out of order you tell him/her that it's out of order. You ban people who continually carry on doing things after they've been told it's out of order.
As for executions, I remember the link of Saddam Hussein's murder being posted. I don't remember a wave of protests about that (and in all objectivity it was a lot more heinous to watch than the link we're talking about).
Yes. Maybe the link was over the line? So what? It's not the end of the world.

Ok, I trust the moderators have made the correct decision based on the information they have, but....
...Dutch Defense was an asset to this site, offering a different perspective on various different openings and challenging the status quo at times
From my dealings with him (I was in his clan for a while), he was a little naive - probably due to ...[text shortened]... ty to that info), I for one think he should be allowed back on to the site with a final warning
And rubberjaw could be back too. He was a fun forum poster and he too got a lot of ideas on chess.
I think that, although he was a pretty good member most of the time, if he were to be brought back it would just open a floodgate to all the other reprobates that are kept in check by the worry of being banned to post whatever they like and keep bending the rules further and further until they have driven all the normal people away from the forums.

For one thing, with tinyurl you can be copying & pasting links with no previous knowledge of what the link is, other than the O.P's description & context.
This is a chess website, some people (right or wrong) use this at work. They could face disciplinary procedures if we have a content free-for-all on this site.
Also, young kids may use the site or view parents using it.
There should be an instant ban for people posting such links - even if they warn about them.
If you want that sort of content then there are thousand of site happy to satisfy your every need. Heard of google?
The freedom of expression argument is null & void - there is no freedom of expression. It is childishly naive to think otherwise.
Get over it!

You mod rimmer.
If you break the site TOS then that's your problem.
If you don't like the terms which you agreed then don't use the site.
As Smaug said, Dutchee is probably already regenerated anyway so what's the problem?
The only rims I'd consider modding are on my 200sx, thanks 😉
