Love the Boss. I'm a disciple and a buddy of mine has something like 200 bootlegs. His early stuff - first three albums - is brilliant, to this day. Saw him seven times on The Rising tour, three in the Meadowlands, two in Philly, one more time in the Meadowlands, and then the final show of the tour in Shea last October 4.
The Shea show was grea ...[text shortened]... you don't care, but thanks for letting me take that five-minute vacation anyway. BRUCE ROCKS!

Which formulaic US sitcom compares to Seinfeld?
There's no hugging. There's no nice people. Nobody ever wins. There's no moral to the story. People don't learn, they just keep on making mistakes.
tsk.
Shame on you Varg. Go and ...[text shortened]... Unfunny, and fly off to Unfunnia to watch Mork and Mindy re-runs.
Northern Exposure was pretty good. Police Squad I liked, one called Bakersfield PD, and possibly a few others.

And it has to be handed to the show, okay...maybe they were anti-jewish, anti-catholic, anti-nazi, anti-protestant, anti-capitalist, anti-handicapped, anti-politically correct, anti-gay, anti-anti-gay....
But that was what made it so good. The four main characters were completely selfish. What was good for them was good. What wasn't, was bad.
I put it to you that they fit in my description of me:
"Yes, I am a racist. But I don't discriminate in my racism. I hate all of you."

Just that the jokes were based on lame stereotypes (Jackie Mason does this too, and that crap woman who always tells jokes about clitorises (or is it clitori?).
It reminds me of the stand up comedian in the Simpson's: "You ever noticed a white guy does this, while a black guy does this...". Lame stereotypes.

Doesn't ALL humour rely on various degrees of stereotypisms?
Okay, they don't all. You have the absurdist type of humour, but that's only funny to a certain extent.

Black people dance. Hilarious.
White people are straight. My sides are aching.
Jews become doctors or lawyers. Please stop.
Right I'm going to stop as I'm sounding too serious. Believe it or not I like comedy.
I'm reminded of this:
Nobody likes a good laugh more than I do... except, perhaps my wife... and some of her friends. Oh, yes, and Captain Johnson. Come to think of it, most people like a good laugh more than I do, but that's beside the point!

You've lost me completely dude. Or I've drunk too much wine.

The thing with Springsteen is, you can't judge his music until you've seen him play live. And I certainly wouldn't recommend an acoustic concert. You have to see him and the E-street Band.
Most people who I know don't like his music, but they'll go to every one of his concerts. Then when you listen to the songs on record, you find yourself actuall ...[text shortened]... if you want to hear him at his best.
Lyrically "Darkness on the edge of town" was his best.

The joy of NZ (one of) is having a mix of international tv and radio we don't have to watch american attempted humour. Your sitcoms are all complete rubbish. Though I loved to perve at threes company BUT that was a copy of a brit com.
Archie Bunker was good wasn't as funny as the Brit Alf Garnett (sadly both dated now)
The downer here in NZ is getting up in the morning to three pages of you lot LOL
PS My wife has just about every bootleg concert. belongs to fan groups and is going to the city for a group meet this weekend. They are showing wide screen Bruce concerts...
There is a difference with his concerts...people almost always have fond happy memories and experiences... there's virtually never any problem and the guy's work ethic is incredible. Not many performers do a 3 hour show.
I went to Santana the week before.. brilliant show (2 hrs) with an opening band.. Carlos is playing better than ever.

I agree with you, Kirksey, very well said. He's a chronicler. Each album is a time capsule, and he's taken the very best and worst of American life and put it to words and music. Incredible indeed.

Devils & Dust gets into your mind and strengthens your resolve. I think it's going to be an enduring favourite. Can't wait to hear what Okes think about the song "Black Cowboys"
