@contenchess saidSilly bastards.
What the hell are you guys talking about? ๐คจ
The thread is about candy and how it has changed for better or for worse since your childhood.
You know what?...Just forget it!
@chaney3 removed their quoted postNever got money for books.
Or pizza day.
Or hotdogs day.
Or anything.
I left home at 17 and never looked back.
My sister asks me about once a year if I'm ever going to visit my father and the answer is always the same.
No.
@cliff-mashburn saidMaybe better only only eat 4 bars anyway.
Let's see...... back then minimum wage was a dollar an hour, so I could buy 20 Hershey bars.
Today minimum wage is $7.25/hour, so I could buy almost 4 Hershey bars.
Your minimum wage is shocking though, which state is that?

cotton candy
i was only allowed to have one when at the county fair or the state fair
mom got rather peeved when i stuffed a wad of it in my pockets for later
@trev33 saidFederal minimum wage.

Same as the Federal 1 dollar minimum wage in 1960.
Who said I was going to eat 4 versus 20 candy bars a day anyway?
There are several candies that I loved as a kid and that I love now that are still the exact same:
1. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - probably my fav of all time. Still there, still great
2. Junior Mints - same as above
3. Hersey's chocolate bar - still awesome, still there
Others: Snickers bar, Kit Kat bar, Planters peanut block, chuckles, butter rum live savers, all still there and good!
I miss the penny candy, the Fire balls and stuff like that, but times do change.

So who is getting this minimum wage?
@earl-of-trumps saidForgot about those. Thanks for reviving the memory!

Not much of a candy or dessert eater as an adult, except for dark chocolate once in a while.
As a kid I liked butterscotch candies, root-beer barrels, wintergreen and spearmint more than peppermint, chocolate-covered cherries, and that one mysterious purplish-gray Necco wafer.

Do you remember Callard and Bowser's? their box of butter scotch bars was awesome.
they were bought up by Kraft in '93. ugh.
And I forgot to mention root beer barrels, which you can still get by the bag.
I love chocolate covered cherries, but I can only get them here around christmas. grrrrrrrrr
(not a big fanboy of Necco )
@earl-of-trumps saidThe chocolate covered cherries with the soft filling in them are delicious.

@trev33 saidWho cares about wages when we're being paid in candy?
Who said a day? We're talking about hours here.
So who is getting this minimum wage?
@Trev33
Was this year's chocolate bar tournament cancelled for COVID?
The only way to sort this is to play the legends versus the youngsters.
