about it
UncleAdam try spending your time finding out which moderator deletes posts either on instruction or out of personal vendetta. I see Lyn's post has returned now. Until the forums show who has deleted a post they will continue to be abused by the moderators

Here's a brief explanation.
I am a moderator, and I removed the post you refer to because I saw it as an attempt to start up another 'flame war'.
After giving it more thought, I decided that I should not have removed it in the first place, since I don't know for a fact that it was going to start a 'war'. So I put it back.

Apology accepted but two things:
1. Maybe give a post more thought BEFORE you decide to delete it.
2. I still would like to see deleted posts replaced with the moderators name who deleted it and a brief reason why they did so. This would stop bad feeling and prevent people like me from thinking a few people with power on RHP are acting as secret police.

This 'brief note' would, I'm pretty certain, be followed by an indignant reply from the original poster and a viscious circle would ensue.
On the subject of 'secret police' - are you really serious about this?
Don't you think we have better things to do than conduct a clandestine vendetta against any individual?

A reply to Alley Crime...
Well, it wasn't an apology, it was an explanation.
I'm comfortable with my actions in moderating that post. It looked like the start of a flame war, and when you see what looks like a fire starting, you don't spend a lot of time thinking about it first. You try and put it out before it spreads.
The rest, you will need to address to someone other than myself, as I have no control in how the moderation program is operated.

Being a cross section of society, that number must include wife beaters and junkies amongst other non-desirables, yet it seems the main criteria as to whether your post is moderated or not is which particular clique you belong to.

Hey Russ/Chris how about changing the moderation process. I am sure well intentioned people such as Marc, are being suspected because posts are deleted in such a secretive manner.Make it open and above board and there will be no problem. Either a post deserves to be deleted or it doesn't. So explaing why it was removed and by whom will damage no-one, just stop bad feeling
we are all on the same side

[b]Absolute power requires no apology?
When one of us removes a post, it is not deleted. It only moves to a different folder. From there it can be re-posted to the forum by any one of the moderators, or it can be left alone.
If it isn't reposted, and after it sits there for a long time, usually several days or even weeks, Russ or Chris can delete it. No one else can actually delete it, as far as I know.

Whether or not there are certain undesirables or even cliques, which there are, is beside the point. It is the content of the post that matters. It seems that the issue comes down to two factors: 1) should there be censorship around questionable post that may not be vulgar or obscene, but have a tone of inciting hostility or flaming and 2) Do we want to separate what is vulgar or obscene from what is "unpleasant"?
Occasionally I see a post which has no obscenity in it, but I know that it's intent feels like an attempt to "o'erreach them in their own devices." Many people I play with on the site find this uncomfortable and I'm sure that there are those who on some level find it entertaining.
There is one player on the site and occasionally we engage in an exchange of ideas that we do not always agree upon, but I would never put him down or denegrate him and I have never experienced that from him. In fact I very much appreciate his honesty. However, if I were attacked I would probably just not participate as I know that internet battles are not really battles and I don't want others to feel obligated to participate or waste their time reading it.
