I didn’t hear that myself. If he was then the press are not acknowledging it.

He was appointed the first Honorary Colonel of the Army Foundation College
in Harrogate, Yorkshire, a training centre for soldiers under 18, on his 100th
birthday. When acting in that capacity, he will be addressed as "Colonel Tom.
