To the Officers of the Glendale and Los Angeles Police Departments,

I am sending you this note because I was pulled over by police from the Glendale Police Department recently for ...[text shortened]... live there. I may post it elsewhere as well.

With great respect,

Yes, sorry my mistake Inadmissible. And no not from wikipedia at all, like my profile says I am a law student. I have not asked anyone to rely on my post, that would just be my advice to anyone who finds themselves in that situation. I have just written an exam on that exact subject so I am quite confident it is correct.

What you really are is in denial. I will bet you after a j that you are impaired way more than you have the cognitive ability to realize. This is not rhetoric but FACT. It is from reaction tests and you would be amazed at what slowing your reaction time by .3 seconds can be the difference between you being able to safely stop your vehicle and being involved in an accident, or worse, injuring or killing someone. I would like to see a permanent ban on your right to drive if you drive impaired one time. There are way too many people who think like you do and they don't have a clue about what they are talking about. The only way a car kills someone is through mechanical failure or human error. In most cases, the mechanical failure is at least partially due to human negligence on keeping the vehicle in safe condition to drive.

Maybe.

By the way, they stopped me because apparently I'm supposed to have a little light shining on my licence plate. 🙄

Nothing to do with bad driving.

Don't see too many letters complaining that we should be able to have open liquor in our cars because we are "pursuing happyness".
Because there's no legal equivalent to a sealed bottle of alcohol with respect to weed. Well, maybe there is in CA if I have a scrip, but I don't. Yet.

Anyway, marijuana smokers have been shown to be just as safe drivers as sober people, which is not the case with alcohol.

The police have my respect now. They really don't want to piss me off. The LAPD is already in deep doo doo for the MacArthur Park episode. I never treated police disprespectfully, even when they're busting me. If they decide to taser my peaceful stoner ass it will not go well for them.

Anyway, I don't plan to spend much time in Glendale any more.

And they don't know who I am, though they could probably figure it out if they cared enough. If they care that much then they've read what I had to say.

i disagree with your logic and disrespect towards the fine men and women serving in our police force...
the obvious reason is that you are complaining to the wrong people...
write your congressmen, not the police...
the police can't do anything but enforce, whether or they not agree, the laws set forth by Congress
as far as your pursuing happiness claim, it doesn't matter whether it makes you happy or not, marijuana impairs driving in many of the same ways alcohol does...
the officer has to assume you were under the influence of marijuana at the time of the arrest because you had it on your persona
besides, as a question to yourself: why do you think marijuana brings happiness, true happiness, to your life?

Congressmen? OK. I'll send it there too.

Marijuana does not impair driving. I just linked to quite a few references on that point.

The point is not whether marijuana brings happiness to my life. The point is that I have the right to try it and see if it does. And in fact, I enjoy it tremendously and I have for ten years.

You don't think the opinions of police officers have any political weight? I think that's a big mistake.

The officer has to assume you were under the influence because you were in possession of it? Er I don't think so. No assumptions can be made unless a blood test is taken.

Marijuana bringing real happiness, well possibly, it releases endorphins, as for 'real' happiness define exactly what you mean?

that's because it depresses the senses, even if the high has worn off, your driving is still impaired greatly by these slower reflexes...

a report saying that marijuana doesn't impair driving is comparable to the report that alcohol, particularly red ine, is good for the heart
it presents a possibility as fact, when in actuality the American Heart Association warns strongly against the consumption of any alcohol ever
i defy you to show a test conducted by a government agency that says marijuana does not affec reaction time...
