This made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that.
A Hillbilly family's only son had saved up money to go to college and after about 3 years he came back home. They were sitting around the dinner table when the dad said, ''Well son, you done gone to college so you must be perty smart. Why don't you speak some math fer' us?''
''Ok, Pa'', the ...[text shortened]... Dad said, ''Why son, they ain't teached ya nothin'! Pie are round, cornbread are square.''

As the great Martin Luther King (my idol) said people should be judged by "the content of their character" not by their background or the amount of money they have. There should be equality of opportunity, not privelige for those who can afford it. I detest ignorant racism or predudice. Only the intellectually challenged and insecure fear diversity. Aren't new experiences and cultures the stuff of life?
I see, you're not liberal or progressive. Were do you stand politically ?
I can't stand conservatives. My experience is that they tend to look down on people that are not like them and are intolerent of 'weaker' members in society. Margaret Thatcher was the worst - very hateful and patronizing. (Her remark after winning the general election summed her up - "We must do something about those inner cities" (as if she was talking about a lower life form!). For some reason she seems to be idolised in the US. Can't for the life of me think why.
In foreign policy we should help others, not for what we can get out of it , but because they need help. We, as the west, could do much to alleviate
suffering (eg Aids) if we chose to do it. But we choose our own self interest first.
What do you mean by 'Liberal' ? I believe that this is an insulting term in
US politics. As for 'progressive' I certainly am! You seem to have got the wrong impression of me!! As I've said in other posts - some of my comments have been 'banter'. An example was the post about widening of turnstyles in US stadiums. That's just funny! You have to admit that.
By the way - why has there never been a succesful socialist party in the US. Is it because of the paranoia about communism? (A completely different thing). Of course The Soviet Union wasn't a communist country -
just the rule of the strong over the weak. True communism is a nice ideal, but will only work if the vast majority of people are prepared to work for the common good and not be motivated by the desire to acquire
more and more material wealth.

Do you think this is a Conservative prerogative ?

I don't think so. But let the Americans on the site elaborate on that. They're the experts.
By the way your idol Martin Luther King was not a socialist at all, as you will probably know. He was a devoted and sincere Christian. He wasn't even a Christian-Socialist. Socialists tend to be anti-religion. How come lefties condemn religion all the time and at the same time have idols whose policies have firm religious fundaments and who get all their inspiration and strength from their belief in God?
By the way I will leave the question about an American Socialist Part to the Americans on the site.

Well, in that case I can recommend you to join a clan. You can participate in a game that is often plaid on the <Clans> forum. It's called Clan Goad. It will be perfect for you and your fellow goaders will love to see some fresh blood pooring in ....... goad, goad, ... 😀

Originally posted by ivanhoeI think that your statement that socialists tend to be anti-religion is incorrect. Socialism was very strong in both Wales and Scotland at a time when attendance at church was very high. There is even an argument that Jesus was 'socialit' - not one I neccesarily suscribe to. Many early socialist ideas were rooted in Christian belief.

Early in his life he was very active in the civil rights movement, taking part in marches, protests, etc. Later, he became convinced that the Gospel was for everyone and he reached out to klansmen, country music stars and the like. The verse in Corinthians "Be ye reconciled to one another even as Christ reconciled the world to himself..." was a guiding principle. He always took the least expected path of understanding something. For example, the passage where Jesus says if you have done it unto the "least of these..." he took that to mean not necessarily the poor and hungry, but people he detested. He once said that he could not tell any difference between the robes of klansmen and those in the graduation line at Vanderbilt and Duke Universities. Stated that those two universities had held the south back more than the Klan ever had. Of course when he was invited to speak at these places you can imagine how this went over.

I'm glad that you provide interpretations of the Christian faith that go deeper than the usual too shallow interpretations of both believers and non-believers.

I've always thought this was liberalism. The social-democratic parties in Europe are now adopting the same policies. Indifference wearing a mask of goodness and caring ......😞
