Is anyone else currently cutting down on drinking as I am? I've just done 3 weeks now keeping down to the recommended 21 units per week (as in the UK, that's about 10.5 pints beer or 2 bottles of wine)

I've actually increased my booze to 60 units a week.

I have been a heavy drinker for quite a few periods in my life, the worst being merchant navy for 6 months, working in Germany for 2 years and when I first came to London for 6 months when I was drinking more than 120 units a week. For the past 2 years I have been drinking about 80-100 units a week (I bottle vodka, 6 bottles wine and a few beers in the house not counting what I drink when going out). But its time to stop now and be sensible, the crazy thing is I cycle, work out on the punchbag and jog every weekday to keep fit, yet have been drinking this poison too, madness I know.

Hope you lose what you want before xams as I guess it will be harder to stick to your diet then. I am going to allow myself a bit of slack over xmas/new year on the drinking though. How is your diet going? what have you lost and what was your original target loss?

I live off of candy and booze. If I take one of those away, I might die.

my job provides plenty of that, my problem has always been those 3 extra beers and 2 extra slices of pizza

Well thats where I am now, I'm 49 and have been a heavy drinker all my life so it's time to cut back. It wasn't so long ago that 28 units was the rec'd limit, so I agree these limits are not set in stone, but I think my liver needs a rest, maybe after 6 months or so I will let it creep back up to 30ish, but hopefully never to the good (bad) old days level.

I quit completely 6 weeks ago, lost 20 pounds without even trying. Feel terrific.

I don't drink any more. But I don't drink any less either! 😀
