My father made a wooden chess set a long time ago. For most pieces you can use a drill (to spin them) and a file to get the rough shape and then carve the details (if necessary). Knights are a different matter, of course.
He's a doctor now , I have a fine art degree ......But I still like his set better than mine .

I like the idea of carving your own pieces out of wood. The whole bullet idea seems kind of antithetical to your original idea?
thanks for the drill-spinning advice- i'm going to use that. (sorry i can't who said that)

just curious, but i was wondering if anyone makes chess sets... if so, what kind of materials? wood? metal? plastic? carp?
it might be the fact that it's 2:30 am here and i need sleep now, but i've suddenly felt the overwhelming desire to carve a chess set out of wood. any advice will be appreciated if i still feel this way in the morning.

An interesting material to use would be sweet, sugary carvings, covered in live wasps. Modern art!!! Waheyyyy!!!
