So we have these 17 year old twin boys. We never taught them this
double standard, always tried to instill equality but now it seems
a girl is a slut if she goes out with more than one guy but its
perfectly ok for a guy to have ten girlfriends. Wonder how that
started. Know its been going on for a thousand years but how did
it get that way?

1. Human nature
For millions of years humans lived in caves and in hunter-gatherer groups. The brain exists of millions of little connections which happen through doing something a lot. Many of these connections are passed on to the children.
So, a lot of the behaviour that humans now have is based upon the behaviour of these hunter gatherer groups.
In these groups men hunted and were geared for hunting. Women took care of the 'nest' and were geared for doing this.
Men, like most other primates, wanted to have as many children by as many women as possible to keep the species going and women wanted the best man to keep her and her nest safe.
This is the behaviour you're basically describing and that is why it would be logical to think of men and women in such terms.
2. It's a man's world.
Men have dominated politics for thousands of years. They branded the behaviour of the 'weaker' sex as slutty if they were as promiscus as themselves, because they wanted their women to do as they were told.
And the truth is probably a combination of the two.
