@divegeester saidI think that's harsh on Austria who defended really well and almost won on the counter. I would credit Austria with the goalless 90 minutes rather than attribute it to Italy. 0.0 doesn't necessarily mean that football has lacked quality. A well executed game plan that nearly worked for them.
In normal time Italy played with a lack of attacking bite and yet a sort of muddled but stoic defence, the combination of which reminded me of England.
Do you have a different perspective?
@relentless-red saidI’m not making an assessment of Austria, nor even Italy per-se; I’m pointing out that in this game they reminded me of England who also seem to struggle to break down the defences of apparent weaker opposition.

@relentless-red saidIt was thrilling! It was what made the game. The alternative with no extra time would have been to default straight to penalties denying fans of what was undoubtedly 30 minutes of terrific spectacle.
It was exciting, but would you keep it in domestic cups or do players play too much football?
No I don’t think players play to much football. I think they earn too much money, get wrapped in too much cotton wool, and think too highly of themselves.
In the modern game all that needs to change if people are concerned that these poor dears might injure themselves by having to do some overtime, is increase the bench size and substitute allowance.
“Away goals” is an archaic tactic from a time when squads were smaller and substitutes were limited to 3 per game.
Austria, Holland, no way Ukraine are going through, worse group in the competition somehow gets 3 teams in the last 16, none of them into the last 8. I wonder if UEFA will scrap the silly nations league places, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Hungary and Scotland, come on, 5 points between them and all out in the group stage.

@trev33 saidI’m not disappointed to see the Dutch out, they seem to think way too much of themselves in football terms.

@divegeester saidThey had a dream draw, people forget they didn’t qualify for the last 2 tournaments, of course they have the total football past and all that but they’re a shadow of the old Dutch teams. Ukraine were top seeds in their group, says it all.

I'm in a competition at work and chose Spain.
Thoughts ?
Weakest Spain team in years.
@relentless-red saidSpoke too soon!
Swiss have thrown away a golden opportunity here. As frightening as France look coming forward some of the French defending is seriously dodgy.
