@The-Gravedigger saidOn no, say it ain’t so 🤦♂️
Klopp is great but I think Southgate will have one last crack at the 2026 World Cup.
@divegeester saidHe's not going to leave Liverpool in may and manage England by September is he? But international football could suit him, less work obviously.
And by some way.
Southgate will step down now.
The manager I’d like to see take over England who is currently on a break, is Jurgen Klopp.

@A-Unique-Nickname saidFirst match is in the Nations League again Ireland; they could probably send the under 21s for that.

@divegeester saidUnder 18 should be competent enough I'd say, we haven't had a worse team in decades. Wonder why, before Ireland always had a few top playing in England playing, now, none. Youth system is broken.

Looked at the tickets for that, they're only selling joint tickets at the moment with the Greece and Finland games. Think I'll pass.

@A-Unique-Nickname saidI remember Ireland back in the days when Jack Charlton was manager at the World Cup.

Don’t know what the problem is there but it’s probably lack of investment; what’s the pro league like these days?
@divegeester saidNo more Southgate, BBC sport have a great quizz on him at the moment 🤣

Regarding Ireland, I think gaa and rugby popularity is the main reason. The grammar schools play mostly rugby and then Gaelic and hurling are played elsewhere. No room to develop footballers, plus we used to get a lot of English with Irish grandparents which has cooled. Expect Rice, played all the youth systems of Ireland before switching at the last moment. Could of had a summer off 😂
