I mentioned a couple of months ago how I was going to update the
forum format. I am going to do this in the next few days (i.e. I am
going to start today, and I'll be done when I'm done).
If anyone has any last minute requests or suggestions as to how the
forums should work, let me know soon....

Just some features that I think are really important or just useful:
1. Thread titles should be able to be viewed in a non-expanded
format.
2. Nice to have a 'message viewed x times' counter next to title.
3. Replies to posts should be ordered strictly by date ie: no inserting
replies in mid-thread.
4. Authors should have the ability to edit or even delete posts after
posting but when edited the post would have a message on it to say
that it had been edited.
5. The ability to search just titles, just postings or both or by author.
6. Moderators should have the ability to lock or delete flame filled
threads.
7. All posts by members with Flying Red Stars should be highlighted in
red and play a fanfare when opened ;-)

That's why we need a 'quote' feature - that way the last post would still
come at the bottom but would have something like:
*********************************************************

Personally, I like to be able to post specifically to a mid-thread post. I
often am replying only to what that individual said, not to the top
post.

Followed by the reply.
********************************************************
On forums that have this feature the above is generated automatically
by clicking on a 'Reply with quote' button.
The problem with mid thread posting is that it's OK to put your reply
directly below the post you are replying to but then one or more
people come along and put posts inbetween and pretty soon no one
knows who's saying what about who etc etc....

1/ Would it be possible to have the rating posted next/under the
name on the individual games.
2/ To have a posting that states how many unread (within 24 hrs)
there are in each forum.
3/ To allow the forward comments even after the game is over.
4/ Have longer lists for the Most Active Players.
5/ Show the rankings in longer lists.
6/ Show status if the player is online or not. Some players may not
want to toher players know that they are online, give them the option
to change to invible mode.
Sincerely,
Harri / Sometimes with Luck
7/ To have the opportunity send a message when it is not your turn
to move. There may be a game where the moves do not happen that
often and the situation changes for one of the players (something
comes up) and would like to send a message for example to tell that
it will take 8 days when he or she could do the next move, trying to
prevent some of the T/O games. All players do not want to send e-
mails to their opponents.

A RHP Instant Messengar would be REAL cool...heck I would pay to
have that...because with the other IM's you get people trying to chat
with you that you have no clue who they are don't want to talk to them
anyway.
But for us to have our own would be the greatest thing since toilet
paper in 4 packs.

while we are on the subject of suggestions...
would it be possible to add an option to starting games...
what i'm thinking of is being able to start 2 paired games, one as
white, one as black. I enjoy playing 2 simultaneous games against
the same person and am just too lazy to want to have to start two
games...
You might be able to steal some ideas from Aikiweb.com its forum
format is pretty good.
How about an option where you can give odds to other players (as in
playing with a piece less). The compensation being an increase in the
rating points gained if you win. There could be some interesting high V
low ratings battles.
