I don't believe freemasonry has anything in particular against catholics or any other religion. It's more the other way around.

I know a few guys who are masons. Not all become upstanding members of the community, believe me. Maybe at the core, wherever that is, there are some really top dogs who have some kind of real power, but the everyday rank and file just seem to be ordinary people like everyone else with all the same hang-ups and weaknesses. And, going by the guys I know, being a member is not a ticket to the top of your profession nor an enlightened guide to being a better person. But then again, I'm really not sure what it means in countries outside the UK.
