first come technically. People who subscribed years ago only have to pay once and they are represented by a wingless star. However, many continue to support the site by deciding to pay a yearly sub.

So technically, years from now we can pay a sub and have it for life?

No. This only applied at the beginnning of the site's existance.

In the early days, the site was free for all members.

As membership grew, we soon overloaded the server, and this eventually became a financial burden for Russ and Chrismo, who were sponsoring this site as a 'hobby'. New features were being added, such as forums, etc., and the site was really getting slow. It was bad.

Many of the members made voluntary financial contributions to help pay for some of the expenses involved, such as server upgrades. We didn't refer to it as a subscription at that time. Members who made a contribution were given a star icon next to their username, aka a 'pawn star'.

Membership continued to grow, and more features such as clans, tournaments and sieges were added, which has brought us to where we are today, with subscriptions and 'original' and 'winged' pawnstars.

As stated by someone, if an original pawnstar also subscribes, their star has wings.

I almost forgot to mention that at one point Russ actually sold his car to help keep the site going. (At least I believe that was the reason he sold it.) 😲

Hope that helps,
Regards, Marc
