Anyone else get the mass email about boycotting Exxon and Mobil (same thing really)? Its actually not that bad of an idea. I'm up for anything being that I paid $3.20 a gallon this morning. It said that the one idea going around about noboby buying gas for an entire day didn't scare the big gas boys at all, because the supply and demand would still be the same in the long run. But the idea of a complete boycott of the largest company there is, Exxon/Mobile, could actually force prices to go down due to their need to bring customers back by lowering their prices. Which would lead to everyone lowering prices to stay in competition. There are plenty of other gas stations around to use besides them until they would lower their prices enough.
Originally posted by BLReidIts not for one day, I think the one day boycott is stupid. But the long term boycott of the biggest corporation would have some promise if word got it enough.
That thing has gone around periodically for a while now. It doesn't work, just drive by any gas station on one of the days that are supposed to be a boycott day...plenty of customers.

I think boycotting is the only thing that will lower prices. The problem that you have though, PK, is that soccer moms in their SUVs will go and buy gas at Exxon/Mobile anyway because their rich husbands are paying.
Originally posted by PocketKingsMy apology. I read a few words of the original post and jumped to the assumption that it was a reference to the same old tired attempt. This idea does look better, but I still don't have any confidence in it...mostly because I just don't think that enough people will get involved in it.

Originally posted by BLReidIt would have to be a very televised national event. Email isn't enough, but it has to start somewhere 😉

Originally posted by PeachyThat would be retarded. The other companies would assuredly use that event as an opportunity to gather loyal customers, not screw them to make a relatively insignificant profit for one whole day.
and what do you think the other blood-thirsty gas companies gonna do on that same day, ya reckon?
aye, triple the prices just for the laugh of it! - i would, wouldn't you?
I have serious doubts that the boycott would cause a revolution in gas prices, but it does have the potential to get Exxon's attention. It would have to be very well orchestrated, though. As mentioned above, a high number of dissenters would cripple the effort. The ad campaign would have to be pretty spot on and gain widespread acceptance before boycotting would make sense.
I agree, the One Day boycott is well, not going to work. Period. However, yes, the Boycott of the big boys (mobile, exxon) would cause them to lower their prices some. However, it Would have to be well orchistrated. Lets say, you boycott E/M, and pump up at a smaller company, when E/M lower their prices, people are still pumping at the smaller places, so they wont lower their prices. Eventually E/M would lower their prices to a point to draw away from the smaller places. Then, when enough people start going to E/M again, maybe the smaller guys will lower their prices to bring back customers. But what if E/M raise their prices back up when they are satisfied with how many people use them again? In order for any ground to be gained with the boycott of E/M, it would have to be alot of switching to where you pump. It would be alot of effort, and no matter how much people complain, at the current time, theres just not enough people to make it work. People are talking the talk....but not walking the walk. (correct me if im wrong on something here)
Originally posted by PterodactylNearly there Ptero, 4 1/2 litres to the gallon at 95p =£4.27p...ish. £1 to $ is about $2 on a good day, making a grand total of $8 .54c a gallon. So remember buy gallons of it, everytime u go out and stock pile it. Yall get a good price for it on E-Bay. 😏
Price in UK is about £0.95 per litre, which if my maths is correct is £3.60 per gallon.
That about $7.09 per gallon. So, you think you pay too much!
Originally posted by PocketKingsI did read the whole thing, and explained what I see happening with this. The prolonged boycott on E/M would work, If Coordinated properly and if people would use common sense.
C'mon, people, read into a little more. Its not a day boycott!!! I said that idea is stupid and everyone agrees. It is a prolonged boycott of Exxon/Mobil, in order to force them to lower their prices to bring customers back. Refer to the original post, and read the whole thing.
