You are of course correct that there are currently no prisoners under 17, I had old info. The children were released some months ago. However, this does not change the fact that for a very long time there were children at the camp, and it took considerable international pressure and outrage to rectify the situation. And of course if a child is coerced into military action, you are going to find him with an AK47, most likely aimed at you. It is precicely these children that the treaties on children in armed conflict are made to protect. If the US didn't intend to work for the rehabilitation and treatment of these children, then it should not have ratified the treaty agreeing to do so. By holding those child prisoners as they did, the US administration went back on it's word. And this detention was a clear violation of human rights, something you accuse me of providing no examples of.
I'll comment on the rest later, for now its getting too late.
Oh, one more thing that I need to comment on - you atribute my opinions to some arbitrary anti-US attitude, which is yet another example of how you so readily belittle anyone who disagrees with you, or dares to critisise any actions of the US government. I assume then that my agreement with the justification of the war in Afganistan was my schitsophrenia acting up? 🙄😕

I will remind you that none of those detainees has been convicted of any crime yet, 'alleged Al-Qaeda terrorists' would be the appropriate phrase. I'd recommend a bit of reading on the subject from standard news sources.

The point is a lot of the people now held ARE innocent of any crimes. A bloke was released a few months back because, by pure luck, he was able to prove his innocence. Most would not be terrorists. Some would just be regular army, and as innocent as the U.S regular army. Iraq had NOTHING to do with 11/9 (so it seems at this point), or any proven links with terrorism. You say "same people, same religion"? Perhaps you'd think differently if Australia committed some atrocity and the U.S ended up copping the punishment.
I fear your Nazi war criminal example was a bad one from your point of view. They were held in proper gaols, given proper trials, and the Geneva Convention was upheld by all accounts I've read.
Nobody minds if some innocent people are held in a normal gaol for a duration until they are tried and their innocence or guilt is proven, but the prisoners are being treated like animals and no trial is forthcoming.

Muslims are peace loving just like everyone else. And yes they do have fanatical groups who commit crimes.
But do not through all Muslims in with one another.

The reason the Guantannamo Bay issue sticks in my throat is this - every time, every time!, I have heard of an African or Oriental or Middle Eastern country holding 'terrorists' and 'traitors' without trial my instant thought has been "well, that shows that their government is all about". Now the US is doing the same, what am I supposed to think? "It's OK because they're on our side?" I think no!
