Get Bent, don't you have some ice blocks to chisel?

Does anyone know what kind of chisel I should use to make my saw sound more like a set of tympani? What if I hammer a nail into it 6 inches from the handle? Will that help?

I suggest playing it up the octave. The best way to emulate it would be to get a 12-string guitar and put a soft mute (like a piece of felt or rubber) either under or over the strings to get something like the sound of a mandolin. Or he could just rent a mandolin for the next clam bake.

Don't make me angry, you don't want me going "Sussudio" on you.

Fair play. However, the mandolin part of Losing My Religion can be played on a guitar quite effectively. Bit of palm muting or simply not letting the note ring by releasing pressure on the strings, resolves any sustain issues. No need to take it too extremes dude, with the rubber or leather bit. Or even the 12 strings. Just play a couple of strings using chord inversions and the desired affect can be achived. It's called emulation, and emulating one string intrument by using a similar one is no mean feat, or even a rare occurence in the world of music.😛

If all Phlab wants to do is copy the part, then if he copies the voicings it'll sound fine. If he wants the sound, he's going to need to do something better than palm muting, something that lets the strings ring and then decay quickly. If putting some felt under the strings is "too extreme", then he doesn't really want the sound that badly. It's not hard to do.

Could I just wrap a comb with wax paper for the same sound?

I don't understand this term, this isn't a chord... is it? Does it mean something else?

Example:

--------------------------------

Any ideas?

I know that in some (old) german music "H" means B flat...

By "part", I mean the notes on a score. You could get a trumpet section to copy the part if you wanted to, too. It just won't sound like a mandolin.

But a guitar on the 12ish fret will sound pretty similar. Enough to perform. A trumpet would sound ridulous.
