Anyone done it and not in someone’s body?

I’ve done a few times, in “real” life as well as elsewhere.

I’ve rarely had to.

I think in our case they were penknives.

I am “older” (not always wiser) and have found myself in situations where it’s best to toss the instrument(s) aside for my own sanity.

I am not the forgiving kind. The only way I would bury the hatchet would be in my enemies back.

Would you agree that there first needs to be a desire by both hatchet bearers to bury them?

Would you class people you don’t get on with here at RHP as being “enemies”?

Absolutely. Hatchet burying can never really work unless it’s a mutual thing, otherwise there’s still will be animosity from one of the parties.

I’ve just had a quick scan through my memory banks and I think there only one person in my life who I carry a bit of a grudge against. That was a work colleague from a while back who treated me badly. They caused me quite a bit of upset.

If they decided to approach me and apologise (they wouldn’t) I would be compelled to forgive them; actually I don’t think I could do otherwise, such is the power of sincere reconciliation. IMO.

As far as I recall, I have never buried a hatchet. It hardly ever goes as far as that - I just "leave the party" and sometimes it is not even noticed. And that I believe is a sign we were mutually tired of each other.

Yes, I buried the hatchet with my brother and we moved forward. Very glad we did that. It was in our early 20s after a childhood of fighting.

A very important thing to do for health IMO.

But when the other party isn't of the same mindset, it's near impossible. I don't want to say impossible because I hope I can forgive. And I wish I could forgive; a person who is not sorry, has not recognised the damage they created and even continue to miss the mark of loving the people I love. It's a very hard thing to do. Kudos to anyone who manages that, truly. I've worked on it for a decade now.
