Maybe you will qualify as a "famous person" yourself someday!
I met Nelson Mandella at a company function, a few years back.
I met Harold McMillan when he traveled as a passenger on a Safmarine cargo vessel on which my Dad was the purser, circa 1980. The ship was docked in Southampton, and I was a student at the University there at the time.
My Mom has the best story, though. She met John Lennon in a club in Hamburg before the Beatles became famous. The other band members were too busy with their German girlfriends, but John came over and chatted for some time as he was homesick and keen to speak to some fellow Liverpudlians.
I saw The Police play at a local rock club and exchanged smiles and a wink with Sting after the gig. My friend stopped me from going over to talk to him - some friend she was!
Edit: I think it was about 1978, and the entrance fee was 20 pence. I also saw the Damned and The Stranglers at the same club, and lots of other bands before they were famous too.
