@hakima saidI noticed that you remarked on 'my valleys accent' in the Strange Fruit, Box 39 as if your accent might be used to judge you and invalidate your perspective in the US in some way?
Aha! I think I understand...whilst the OP was in a manner of speaking, my response was dealing with the legalese (a language with its own particular definitions). It made me research whether the legal definitions are are the same on either side of the Atlantic and I discovered that they are.
My British friends tease me about my American usage of language and quite George Be ...[text shortened]... wait for me to visit so they can set me in a pub and let me speak, anticipating great entertainment.

@relentless-red saidActually, in that instance, it was used to judge me by someone in another social media forum. I was, with little doubt, self conscious. That was also my first radio presenting experience and very nervous, in which case my voice tends to rise in pitch, producing the”valley girl” effect. I have been able to work on my radio voice over the past few months. This Thursday is another show in which I am co-presenting. If you get a chance to listen, you may notice a significant difference.

@hakima saidYour voice was fine. In the UK people have stereotypes that go with different accents so it just made me wonder if some U.S. version of the same had occurred.

@very-rusty saidEd McMahon was the announcer, Heeeeeeres Johnny, and Doc Severinsen was the band leader.
@moonbus
Do you remember who his sidekick was for all those years?
Also who was the band leader on his show?
Oh I got one more for you moon, who was the most frequent guest on his show?
-VR
@moonbus saidYuppers on both accounts!
Ed McMahon was the announcer, Heeeeeeres Johnny, and Doc Severinsen was the band leader.
The Tonight show just wasn't the same after Johnny Carson left as he was the Tonight show in my humble opinion.
Can you remember the one who he had as a guest the most times?

Three people from the same household go to the opticians together. Turns out they all get a change of prescription. So glasses for three people = price of a small holiday. WTF.
Optician looks at the computer and comments in amazement that I have had the same reading glasses since 2011 and then holds them up and studies them like an archaeologist who never saw something from that era before. π
@very-rusty saidI guess I'll have to give you the answer as you don't know it moonbus.

@very-rusty saidSome of the funniest Carson shows I ever saw were with Don Rickles.

Rodney Dangerfield was a crack-up as well.
@relentless-red saidI've had the same reading glasses since 2014. Three pair, strategically placed around the house. One in my nightstand drawer, one in my computer desk drawer and one in the kitchen for reading recipes.

@suzianne saidAgreed, they were both funny as hell and would have Johnny Carson cracking up with laughter. You must have seen a lot of the repeats!

@very-rusty saidI'm pretty sure it was, yes.
Are you trying to age me Suzie Q? π π All you'd get would be rough idea as Johnny Carson was on for many years (30 I believe) and had all the big stars on his show. If you made his show you were a somebody in entertainment! Sometimes had people on that were on the rise were going to be big stars. I am pretty sure the show was on before you were born Suzie Q!!! π

@very-rusty saidYouTube is good for that.

I can get YouTube on my TV, so it's like watching the shows.
@suzianne saidI believe some stations still carry the Beverly Hillbillies. Now that was a funny show. I don't know if you would have seen any of those you may be two young, but they are still showing repeats on some of the pay channels. One of the few T.V. programs my father watched.
I'm pretty sure it was, yes.

@suzianne saidThree pairs of reading glasses! I can only assume there was a second mortgage involved. π
