why not put some actual content in? you're implying that I claim there's no loss in the hurricane devastating new orleans, also you're implying that I claim it was all GOOD for economy.
well, that's very idiotic of you, as I haven't made any claims that even remotely resemble either of those points (and forget the 'strawman', just make your case instead). we're not talking about the costs of the natural disaster, which is all irrelevant at this point. it happened, it had a staggering cost. nothing is going to change that. scope of the broken window analogy ending.
no, we're really talking about the feasibility of rebuilding the city, and especially the cost of it to the society ie. u.s. tax payers. now, there are three ways to do it:
1) it can be done with no benefit to u.s. economy, for example by selling all rebuilding contracts to any foreign builders. which would mean all of the 250 billions would disappear from u.s. economy.
2) it can be done the keynes way, by domestic contractors. which WILL keep the money inside u.s. economy, decreasing unemployment (a crisis going on there, in case you haven't noticed) and hence directly improving the economy.
3) or you can do nothing.
now, the crucial differences in the outcomes are:
1) 250 billions leaked out of u.s. economy. a functional city gained, which can in time start producing things. a whole lot of people taken care of, no more money spent keeping their heads above the water.
2) 250 billions injected into limping economy, with secondary effects. a city gained, the people taken care of and starting earn their keep again.
3) no change to limping economy, no city, and the people abandoned and costing money until some day the functionality of the city is restored. every year it's delayed, the long time effects grow more costly.
my claim is that 800$ a head is a bargain for option #2, which clearly is the best for the economy as a whole, and mr. keynes will back me up on that.
your claim so far is an analogy which I've easily shown not to apply. had you known what you we're talking about, you'd never have made your ridiculous objections.
