Because you are not making a post you are starting a thread. Please rememebr the forums were not started just so people could play how quick can I get to number one in the top posters table. The idea is that by starting a thread you encourage others to post their opinons of views on the statement. I know this is a bit fuzzy given that this is a general ...[text shortened]... et you post count up by one.
People remember what you say not how much you say.

It is important also that the forums retain much of what they were, it is unfair on many of the users here if forum subjects they wish to discuss with other members of the site are side tracked by idel banter. A lot of the posts that are posted by the, shall we say... younger posters, do tend to have nothing to do with the original thread topic. They are not adding to the discussion, they are causing any logical argument devlopment to disintergrate and this in turn may force a lot of the intelligent posters, that a great many of us in this site enjoy, to disappear.
You do not have to get involved in every thread, only the ones that you think you can add to, be it either in logical argument or light humour. If the threads are just flodded with the likes of...

then this will be a great loss to the site.
Remember this is not a chat room, if you are having a conversation with a fellow member do not let it infect every thread like a virus.
