You're obviously into a zone I might want to explore after we fix
the final line. Maybe... 'The kind old sun would know what to do.'
1. it is unattributed. those words are lyrics from Pink Floyd's 'Pigs on the Wing (Part One)', from their 'Animals' album. they were written by one Roger Waters.
2. it is missing a line - it should read:
If you didn't care what happened to me,
And I didn't care for you
We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain
Wondering which of the buggers to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing.
You might be interested in 'Pigs on the Wing (Part 2):
You know that I care what happens to you
And I know that you care for me
So I don't feel alone
Or the weight of the stone
Now that I've found somewhere safe
To bury my bone
And any fool knows a dog needs a home
Also, i suspect his post was inspired by another Pink Floyd Song suggested by your initial - or as you would insist on calling it, 'embryo' - post, Wish You Were Here:
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
i've always liked those lyrics, despite the somewhat jarring mixed metaphor (swimming in a fish bowl / running over the same old ground).
I was thrown off because my initial reaction was The Ink Spots:
If I didn't care more than words can say
If I didn't care would I feel this way?
If this isn't love then why do I thrill?
And what makes my head go 'round and 'round
While my heart stands still?
That's what I get for being older than dirt.

Thought my quote didn't ring quite true. Thanks for the missing line.
Good to see a few Floyd and Gibran fans around the place π
