If your theory is right I hope we get a chance to learn patience before we go, because there might be a formidable waiting period. I cannot help wondering why God would offer us salvation by grace, and then keep us in a holding cell for who knows how long before allowing us the "peaceable fruits of righteousness"
I respectfully disagree with this.
I won't go into intricate detail of exactly what I believe happens in the afterlife, for fear of either ridicule or yawning, but I think the "near-death experiences" people have is a tiny glimpse into what happens. They come back because it is not their time to go.
I think you go to a "holding area" if you will, to ...[text shortened]... Until you are judged, you cannot go to your final everlasting reward, be it Life, or Death.

And I would also think that the "peaceable fruits of righteousness" is worth a little wait. 🙂

death (preceding His resurrection, ascension and session) simply indicated He had done the Father's will and had propitiated His justice.
He died twice so that we may be born twice... physically and spiritually through simple faith alone in Christ alone. Eternal life is a free gift.
No strings. No psychological hoops. No legalistic letting go of your bad habits. No feeling sorry or guilt trips. No requisite personality change.
No human works. Christianity is not a religion. It's all about being reconciled and enjoying a harmonious rapport relationship with God.
Christianity is God doing all the work and seeking man. All religions are man-made counterfeits, in which man by man's own efforts seeks
to gain the favor and approval of God. It's a grace gift which you can't lose. Believer in Christ is instantaneously in His presence face to face
at the very moment of physical death. After the rapture all believers will appear before Him for purposes of gain or loss of eternal reward.
At death an unbeliever's soul goes to Torments (second compartment of Hades) awaiting the Great White Throne Judgement, then the Lake
of Fire and separation from God for all eternity. Sins won't be brought up. Already judged. They're sentenced because of rejecting Christ.

What about the African bushman who lived his entire life without learning about Christ? Is he forgiven through the blood of the Lamb ipso facto? What then, of free will?

this is response to zozozozo who gave his opinion to ivan about lack of scientific study concerning the human soul. this is incorrect. for one,a Dr. MacDougall of Haverhill,Mass studied this extensively and came to the conclusion the human soul actually weighs 21 grams. talk to any one who has died and later revived about life after death.Life is eternal. The spirit or"soul" does not die

i am not a scientist. but i do know with out a doubt, for a fact , life is eternal. Our spirit does go on. we are all spirit.this physical body and world we are using will pass though.
but i do know without a doubt, or a fact

Maybe you could start by asking yourself what constitutes life and what constitutes death. I'm not talking about the Wikepedia version, I'm talking about zozo's version.
Life is when your body is working, when there is metabolite function ongoing. Theres a couple more things that explain life but i forgot.
death is when your body stops functioning, you will either be burnt or rott away (or be frozen in).
Originally posted by divegeesterI am happy with myself, I just don't believe that I will be born again as my precise replica. 😛
You can, but that type of "hope" is called faith. It's found in christianity (which incidentally is not found in the Spirtuality forum).
"something/someone different"? You not happy with who you are then?
Originally posted by SuzianneI'm dissapointed your estimation of me was in a postion that was so easy to elevate. Sorry about that.
I must admit, my estimation of you just went up a few notches.
Not many among the riff-raff of the General Forum understand this much.
zozo is beginning to look for answers though. That is a good thing.
If there was something particular that caused this please feel free to PM me, I'd be very happy to discuss. 🙂

They are the reason I'm boycotting bicycles... 😕 I should apologize, though. I just can't decide whether you are confident or arrogant...
I post less in the Spiritualty forum these days as I found it was bringing out the worst in me; and I'm not as close to God as I have been in the past.
I joined a "private forum clan" recently (briefly) and was shocked at the foul language, playground attitudes and at what was being posted about other members on this site.
Christians have to be defenders of the faith in this cynical world, but enabled through the power of the spirit of God. I try to remember that it is not my battle but his, and without him I am nothing and can do nothing.
It's nice to read that there are others out there who regard Christianity as more than just a form of religion.
You will probably return fractionally evolved down your own family tree some twenty or thirty generations down the line. A form of evolution is the only real answer as to why we should be here at this moment in time in what we like to call the early twentyfirst century. Why not the fifteenth? or the thirtieth? We have always been here is the most likely answer. When you occur again you will probably be slightly different, being taller with a smaller little toe for instance (as we no longer swing from trees!!)

"You will probably return fractionally evolved down your own family tree some twenty or thirty generations down the line."
why would you think so? then u think of us as souls? how do you explain the fact that the world population grows, where do these extra 'souls' come from?..
"A form of evolution is the only real answer as to why we should be here"
Why should there be an answer as to why we are here...its just damn lucky coincidence.
"We have always been here is the most likely answer."
Nope. If you go into smaller particles it could be true, all the atoms we are made off have probably been on earth for a long time already.
"When you occur again you will probably be slightly different, being taller with a smaller little toe for instance (as we no longer swing from trees!!)"
lol, then how did that happen? why are my toes not the same length? do you understand the concept of evolution? How do you think the giraffe species got a long neck? (epic example)
