@divegeester saidIt's surprisingly difficult for people with psychotic illness to talk about it in an open way due to a prevalent and misinformed view that psychosis is strongly associated with violence and criminality. I attribute that to the steady stream of Hollywood money spinners exploiting a cliched, popular and romantic view of such themes. It plays into one of my pet hates to be honest, but I am pretty biased about such things.
Watched this for the second time last night and thoroughly enjoyed it again, but even more than first time around.
An immense cinematic study into an individual’s mental decline into criminality.
Thoughts on the movie?

parts of the movie reminded me of me, the roller coaster of moods/emotions
excellently portrayed
this will prompt me to watch again, see what i missed
@relentless-red saidSo, let's be clear. Joker is a bad film because, with its central character, his psychosis manifests itself in violence and criminality?

You would have preferred the central character to have been OK, not violent, and not criminal? Is that it?
What would the plot of Joker have been if you'd had the power to factor-in your "pet hates" in order to determine its story?

Seen it a few times. I agree fully with your assessment.
The post that was quoted here has been removedI have no reason to think he would suggest anything like that. Perhaps he'd have liked to see a film about people in the professional field he's retired from.
I see his post about Joker as a rather contrived bit of virtue signalling: an obtrusive Appeal to One's Own Purported Expertise. I saw it time and time again on the Spirituality Forum.
I just think he wanted to blather 'authoritively' about "psychosis" in a way that has an incey wincey puff of manufactured outrage.
I don't think he gives two hoots about the thread topic: Joker.
Maybe he'll prove me wrong and come with an alternative film treatment of the iconic Joker character in which his personal views on how "psychosis" should be portrayed are aired.
@cheesemaster saidI don't see Relentless Red/petewxyz as being self-loathing. Not at all.
Self loathing righteous liberals. 🙄
I see him, instead, as a bit pretentious, and rather too proud and too insecure which results in him continuing to dig holes he is in and also playing the victim card.
When he made a fool of himself earlier this year on the SF on the topic of atheism, instead of saying ouch, my bad, he started a whole thread attacking the people who thought he'd made a fool of himself.
It would be interesting if he'd answer this question about the Joker:
"Putting aside whatever films you'd like to see made, do you think Joker is a good portrayal of a dystopia and a psychotic central character? Or do your views on "psychosis" mean that Joker presents merely with a chance for you virtue signal and cite your own expertise?"

@cheesemaster saidthat would be luke cage
No...no he won't come up with anything.
It's just the usual virtuistic BS we see everyday.
"Look at me I care about people while not actually caring or doing anything"
Self loathing righteous liberals. 🙄
Edit: the future Joker will be black and he has to fight the so-called white oppression.
@FMF
I have not seen the current film but I will.
From past Jokers I see the image of people being fed up with life and doing whatever they want.
That is actually happening everyday everywhere.
As far as Relentless Red is concerned, he is going through an identity crisis and maybe he is confused. 🤔

@cheesemaster saidThis might make a good film.

Films are an excellent way of exploring issues and grinding axes.
A film can still be excellent and provocative even if one doesn't approve of what its characters say and what its script has them do.
