Originally posted by darvlaywell okay, I haven't watched it since season 4. when someone fooled me once again into watching it, like every season before that, by insisting that "it's all different now". it wasn't. nothing had changed, there was no progress, nothing real had happened and they were still on that damn island looking like models.
A lot of people bailed off the bus because they couldn't take the plot-twist/endless questions format over the first three-four seasons and continue to slag the show even after not having watched it for years but I can honestly say I have enjoyed Lost over the past six seasons as much as I enjoyed my favourite dramas of all-time: The Sopranos and The Wire. ...[text shortened]... it pay off in the end? That depends purely on the viewer and what they expect out of the show.
just tell me one thing: are they still on the island?

I can't wait to see what this relationship between Jacob and that body-stealing dude is. I like the body-stealing dude.
Now we know that Sawyer is not just a redneck scumbag thief.
Suddenly, the doc has a kid.
They all know eachother, kinda.
Hurley talked to dead people like the asian dude.
Richard is super old and dead.. but why? WHY?
We know a ton more. Or we have more questions, rather.

So you watch one episode in the past 4-5 seasons and you know that nothing has or has ever changed. Expert opinion if I've ever heard one. Is there anymore detailed analysis on the show you haven't watched you'd like to share? 😵
I understand the show is not for everyone, just don't tell me "there's no plot" or that "nothing happens" when you don't even follow. I can't take opinions like that seriously.

OK, in ancient times, there were two wizards. A good wizard, Jacob, and a bad wizard, Smokey. They found ways to give themselves enormous powers and longevity, but they are not immortal. In their struggle for dominance, everybody else on the island was killed and they alone remained. They cannot hurt each other directly, but can summon champions from the outside world to fight for their cause. Smokey wants to escape into the outside world and Jacob's mission is to restrain him.
Jacob knew he was close to dying, so he summoned the people who were on the plane so that one of them could be convinced to take his place as the opposer of Smokey. Jacob couldn't be sure which one of the people on the plane would be strong enough or willing enough to take his place, so he loaded the plane with a very large number of potential champions. The problem with that is that if Smokey can turn a sufficient number of those potential champions to his cause, he can use their power to escape from the island.
Everything that came before, like the Dharma Initiative, the Others, and everything in between, were just pawns in the back and forth battle between Jacob and Smokey. Now that the final battle is approaching, Widmore who was once aligned with Richard and Jacob, has gone out into the world, using what he'd learned on the island and amassed a fortune for the purpose of returning to the island to take control of the island after eradicating Smokey.
