What 2-letter particle can make the greatest number of commonly used English words?

For example, -or can make for, nor, and maybe others. -oo can make boo, coo, goo, loo, moo, too, woo -- and maybe others.

I think 'ad' might have it, but 'id' is a long shot.

Yes, it should be. Replace the hyphen ( - ) sequencially with a letter of the English alphabet a thru z, and find how many result in 3-letter English words. I have one in mind. It's best if you list the words.
