My love affair with this company continues. Ran MS update the other day and it decided i was running a pirated copy of XP. I wouldn't mind too much if i actually was running a pirated copy but on this occasion i just happen to be running an official copy! Has anyone else had this problem? I've run MS validation twice now but it still won't accept it's wrong. 🙁

I have been taking automatic downloads ever since I can remember and have been using a computer for many years.
I don't have the technical knowledge to modify anything!
You don't work for MS by any chance do you?
😉

As we have been saying, WGA has caused many false allegations of piracy.
If, as seems, you don't believe me, I can send you links to some pc tech sites about it.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Genuine_Advantage WGA has been mandatory since July 2005. That's one big cave Rene-Claude/Marinkatomb have been living in if they "have just" discovered WGA?
Even to install DX9 required for games you saw the WGA thingie, you can't tell me they are so ignorant they have no games that require DirectX?

I have no particular interest in computers so lots of stuff pases me by that other people seem to know about.
I have been taking downloads as per normal ever since I can remember. The download for WGA appeared on my computer FOR THE FIRST TIME a few days ago.
Why would I make it up?
I don't have any games on my computer except those MS card games and I have absolutely no idea what DX9 is!
😳

Now it is put on your system as an update itself, if you refuse it, it continuously reminds you.
"Users of licensed Windows software have been erroneously subjected to popup displays warning (once per hour after 14 days) that WGA considers Windows to be non-licensed. Thereafter, these users are denied certain important software updates"
That is part of the current class action court case against Microsoft over WGA.
It has been estimated that over 5 million users of their operating system have been erroneously affected. [As a percentage that may be nothing to M$.]

MS has just made itself another dissatisfied customer. I started off being slightly bothered by this, now I am angry and will hold out as long as possible.
