Vancouver BC. I went on my own in 2005. I did a Moose tour, met loads of people, backpacked around the Rockies, jumped out of an aeroplane, tried a bit of whitewater rafting and kayaking. it was amazing. £99 one way with Zoom
Originally posted by huckleberryhoundDo not buy that. From Europe a standard return flight to Phuket should cost around 400 pounds. . . .If you are thinking about South East Asia and have not been before. I can recommend a few places but depends on how much time you have.

Most definately top of the list for me is Laos.
Fly to Bangkok search cheapflights.com and you will find a 400 squid return job. 10 pounds overnight bus to to Laos border at Vientiane. Go to Luang Prabang for the water festival at the end of april early may. . .Heaven on earth. Talk to everyone and anyone you meet who is Laos. Four days of celebration in the most amazing of countries.
2. . . Sumatra Indonesia. Gunung Lauser national park. Adventure through tropical rain forest rich with life. Will probably cost 500 pounds for return ticket to Medan in Sumatra.
3. . . Take in some beaches in South Thailand and head north to Chang Mai. First two choices better.
Anywhere in south east asia is a great experience if you have not been before. . . First time I went gave me some of my best memories.

Have a look at country profiles on lonely planet website. Gives a very good idea on the cost of travelling around any country.
Come to New York, pal. Wake up in the City That Doesn't Sleep. You won't need a driver's license because the traffic ain't moving anyway. You could play chess in Central Park, hang out in Times Square with Donald Trump, go to Brooklyn on the subway, gawk at the skyscrapers, meet thousands of beautiful women, and learn to speak English so none of your friends back home would ever understand you again. Know what I'm sayin'?
