I have been there, and it was a nightmare. The bookshops were great, though. I wouldn't have survived without them.

Have a look at country profiles on lonely planet website. Gives a very good idea on the cost of travelling around any country.
I don't fancy africa myself, but asia has always had a drawing factor for me.

You could play chess in Central Park, hang out in Times Square with Donald Trump, go to Brooklyn on the subway, gawk at the skyscrapers, meet thousands of beautiful women, and learn to speak English so none of your friends back home would ever understand you again. Know what I'm sayin'?
🙂 New York is a city break thing, and something i might do aswell LOL, it's really cheap to fly there from here. People here in ireland go there for the christmas shopping, most of them have family there right enough.

Huck, I'm talking about excitement! I'm talking about chorus girls! The vision of a bunch of shoppers from Ireland looking for bargains kind of takes the edge off. 😞

I am sure it does, but I was far too stressed out to find it (other than the bookshops).

Work, save some cash. . . Then leave and travel. I spent seven months in India and Laos and including 650 sguid total in two single flights I spent 3500 pounds. That works out to around 125 squid per week. . . .And I tell you what my friend in all of that time I never wanted for anything. I did and bought and went where I desired. 🙂. Lived like a king.

I could spend 80 squid a night over here in the UK on booze and the having of a good time.

The cheapest time I ever spent in a country was in Varenasie in India (must not be the correct spelling). Stayed in a dormetary for 15p per night and spent 1.2 pound per day on meals. Now that was free. Over here it costs me 10 squid just to leave my front door.

Where did you go treking in China , have never been. What is the countryside like? Were the people freindly?

Okay... But I can get that elsewhere without the surrounding nightmare.
