On the fascinating topic of new chess sets, it must be disappointing for all those set designers to find that 87.69% of us use one of the 3 plainest and least original designs available to us.
Thanks to Russ's contribution to this thread we've discovered board statistics as well. 69.45% of us use either the highest-contrast board or the least-contrast board.
Sounds as if a good designer wanting to score high on these lists should be staying close to the traditional shapes and maybe messing with colours and textures only. Also designing a board that perfectly integrates with the piece set.
Just an opinion from someone who can't draw a straight line and admires anyone who can create ANYTHING. 🙂
