i can't think of the whole world and every poor sod, dying from hunger, oppression, civil wars, devastation and etc, etc ... i think of a few people that are close to me, and in whose lives i can make a difference. to tell you the truth, i'll die for those few with the smile on my face. as for the rest - i couldn't be bothered. i've grown out of the age w ...[text shortened]... .
and btw, the cigarette i just had was no different from any other i had in my life. 😉
It's true, I guess the ciggie I had about 1 hour ago (woohoo - 1 hour) was just as disgusting as all the others that came before

The ban has been active in Wales now for a few months, it's a joy to come home from the pub without having your clothes smelling of smoke. The only problem is where to put your chewing gum now that the ash trays have gone!
Originally posted by ChaosChildI have a colleague who was a hardcore smoker. When the smoking ban in restaurants, bars and cafés was introduced in Norway in 2004, she said she wouldn't let that stop her, she had been smoking for almost all her life and wasn't prepared to change that anymore (apparently she had made some unsuccessful attempts many years ago). But after a year or two she changed her mind. She still uses nicotine gum, but hasn't been smoking since she made her decision. I have heard of several others who quit because of the ban, too, but some may have started again. For me personally, the ban has certainly made a difference - I can go to pubs or cafés without having my eyes start to run and without having stinky clothes afterwards.
similar ban is in effect in south africa for some time now. and sure, lots of people tried to quit since they can't smoke at their work desks and etc. restaurants and pubs were revamped to accommodate smoker's corner, which we were still allowed (for how long still - i don't know) ... but after the whole hipe was over, everything seemed to get back to nor ...[text shortened]... e smokers i know, who tried to quit, are still happily puffing away ... hmmm, including me.

Yeah, some nightclubs smell of sweat and feet. Disgusting! 🙁 Pubs generally are ok though.
Pubs are places where people went to smoke and drink for hundreds of years. they have probably seen some of the worst kind of human behaviour.
It's in the stones I think.
Also, I heard some pub owners realised that their plumbing was very bad, once the smoke had cleared
Originally posted by knightwestYeah, this is my worry. I am all for the ban, but a pub I drink in is a bit of a smoker's den - but I went in there early one lunchtime once (before the smog developed) and it smelt bloody awful. If that is how it is going to be every night now, I could be for changing locals. (No wonder they are so strongly against the ban in this pub.)

and nowadays i don't think of a cigarette as disgusting, it's just the same as always. sometimes though i do get a satisfying feeling after having that smoke. but most of the time it's just a well deserved ten minute break between long hours of hard work, if i don't smoke during the break, i'll probably drink ... now, what's worse at the end of the day - stinking of smoke or reeking of beer and being slightly wobbly in your feet? 🙂
Originally posted by knightwestToo bad for you,(really I feel for ya). I just lit one up and puffing as I type this. AND AT WORK IN MY OFFICE AS WELL!!! HA HA HA SMOKE POLICE WILL NEVER CATCH ME!!!!
It's been 4 hours and I am feeling fine.
No I am not, I really want a smoke. In goes the gum, bleurgh!

Originally posted by Nordlystrue, i know a few smokers who quit as well. and quit for many various reasons, some including the ban. and i'm all for it, nothing wrong there ... may be i'll quit too one of the days, who knows? as i said before, the reason that i had at the time is gone now.

but talking about pubs, clubs and etc, i must say that the smoker's corner with some extractor fans are working quite effectively here. now you have a choice where you want to sit and have that drink and food.
