I was on a business trip to southern Ohio and northern Kentucky at the beginning of this week and gas prices there were in the $1.07/litre range. Here, in southwestern Ontario it's about $1.32/litre. I just read that we can expect it to jump to the $2.32/litre in the next "liitle while". When will you park your car? I live in a rural area so public transit is not an option for me but if it comes to that I may just have to move...........or retire fully.

Do you own a vehicle and if so do you use it much? I'm using it a lot less than I had, at least for non-essential trips.

i live in london, so no need for a car, and for most people they're a liability - difficult and expensive to park, and there's an £8 a day (over $15) charge for driving into the centre on weekedays - except that i lug a load of musical gear around for gigs so yes, i do have a car which i use occasionally.

most days i cycle to work.

For a long time, when I lived and worked in Toronto (downtown), I used a bike or public transportation to get around but when I moved "to the country" a vehicle was a must.

I live in Toronto, and I try to take the car as little as possible. Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you with the musical equipment, so I have to drive at least 3-4 days a week.

I'm not looking forward to the gas price hike at all, but it's probably long overdue (although as far as I can tell, very little if any of the increased tax revenue is going towards stewardship of the emissions).

If the Liberals get elected Dion's Carbon tax will roll in the federal gas tax as part of the program. Any increased tax revenue from higher gas prices will be used to offset the corresponding income tax reductions resulting from the carbon tax plan.

So, even though gas prices go up, your income tax goes down, thus offsetting the impact.

Yet another tax for us eh?
😞

I thought the Liberal way was spend, spend, spend. And the Conservatives was tax, tax, tax ( except for big business of course)

Can't park it, but car-pooling to work next year (next year begins August 11th). I'm driving a whole lot less this summer, though!

Your income tax will be reduced approx 10% though. It won't end up costing you anything in the end.

What kind of a Prime Minister talks like that? Thanks for acting like a common bar slob there Harper. Go back to Alberta and stay off the world stage for a while you moron.

Ya and income tax was a temporary measure. What's the government doing with all the money they're making on the gas price increases(The tax is not a fixed amount but a percentage)? I know it's not going into what it was set up for.
